AND your learning may help others in the future!
Can eggs get reabsorbed? Is that a thing that can happen?

I was just telling a friend who was admiring the antics of pet birds that they are not for the feint of heart. But they are such a special bond that it’s worth it. At least that’s what I keep telling myself. :D
No clue on reabsorption. I don't think so? Google doesn't give a definitive answer.

Now it's just a debate about whether or not to worry about everything that happened that didn't result in an egg

Eggs can get resorbed if they’re not in the oviduct (and not shelled). This can cause a problem because the liver then has to process the egg. Also there’s all that yolk material in the abdomen.
This happened with my Lucy and she developed some liver issues and also egg yolk peritonitis, which was very dangerous. She was a sick bird for about a week. Very scary. But something went wrong with Lucy; that doesn’t always happen. But it is extra work for the liver if eggs are ripening and then resorbed.

Eesh... Here's hoping it was really nothing. I'll give her a couple of days and if she starts acting sick I'll see about taking her in. She's been acting totally normal, and her poops have returned to normal as well. She's still about 14g up despite not eating much, which I'm totally confused about.

Water weight gain or the start of a string of 4 eggs ripening?
That would be my guess about the weight gain.
in most cases those eggs should be resorbed just fine. Something went wrong with my bird; but she’d had a very traumatic past and may have had some reproductive issues I wasn’t aware of,

Yes , if they aren't shelled they can re asorb, but you would not have felt it because it would still be to high up.

I can tell you that my vet shared they sometimes eat them and leave no trace! She has egg bound, x-ray confirmed, hospitalized in an incubator, the next day no egg in cage not a single trace and re x-ray confirmed no egg. Drove her and the birds parents nuts! And she had happen more than once!

I also had an egg disappear, Phoebe had egg butt you could see the egg outline! I heard it clunk in the night in bottom of cage , I was reading in my bedroom , the next day no trace of egg! I figured it might have rolled out and the dogs ate it or she did...no egg butt in the morning...

Did you weigh her this evening and see a weight drop? If not check in the morning

I wonder if what Xoetix felt was the swelling of the vent tissues that goes along with egg laying? Or maybe there was an egg…
Yes, it’s natural to eat an egg, shell and all, if infertile or conditions not right to breed. Hopefully Isadora is discouraged enough that this process stops and no more eggs.
I AM glad Willow is a boy and I don’t ever have to worry about eggs. I think Jasper is a girl but she’s not super-bonded so maybe she won’t ever lay.

Totally fine lol. She's sassy as all heck today, eating, drinking... If I hadn't had my partner feel the lump as well, I'd be convinced I was hallucinating.
Did you ask her if you passed haha :heart2: Glad she’s back to her normal queen self

No egg still! And everything is back to normal - appetite, poops, etc. Her weight is starting to come back down too, so I have absolutely no clue. Do birds get false eggs, like a false pregnancy?

Maybe started to ripen eggs, then got resorbed? That would be my guess.

I think maybe she had some inflammation from her bowls being off .
An egg would not look like a thumb size( or.littlr smaller ) , bump on one side of vent , which is how the picture looked to me. It would look like / feel like the curve of a tablespoon taking up most of the space from her vent to her pelvis

It must be cockatoo mating season. Dolly is finally off her egg, but is doing her thing with all her toys now. She is not going to have anything to play with at this rate. :tmsmakesme:
