How late is too late to change his name?

Not that he knows his name, because I never actually called him Boba. Every time I’m talking to him I call him bug or Boba Bug (but said so quickly that it really comes out as just one word) or Beetle because his coloring reminds me of a Junebug.
I don’t think so does he answer to his old name ?
remi knows his name but would only say its last month or so he actually looks at just his name and he started saying it when I open bird room door
Pip doesn’t know his name yet at all I would say so I think it takes a while

pick the new one and say it every time you give him a treat

I haven't met an animal yet that couldn't adapt to a new name. Especially with the large number of nicknames we tend to give them. Also a lot of animals get renamed when they are rehomed. I say go for it.

I say change his name as well if he doesn't know and really respond to it. Nala was Beaker when I adopted her I changed it to Leo(was told she was a he) then years later when I had her DNA'd suprise she was a little girl so I named her Nala and finally she responded because I'd found the name she was always ment to have.

He’s such a strange little bird. And I don’t know if it’s because I’ve never had a conure before, so I don’t know what normal is for them, or what.

He barely makes any noise. If something is understandably concerning like a broom or something like that, then he’ll give an alarm call, but overall he’s remarkably quiet. The most noise he’s made was today - my partner took his hat off and Bug absolutely flipped out, just lost his mind but only when the hat was upside down. I’m wondering if maybe someone has trapped him in a hat or something, maybe used one to catch him. When the hat was right side up, it was fine, but the second it flipped upside down he lost his marbles.

He’s had plenty of opportunities to get mouthy with me and use his beak and be nippy, but the only time he’s done it was to give an exploratory pinch on my lip, and even then that was incredibly gentle and was really more of a light squeeze. There’s not a single nip that’s happened.

He is BALLSY. He’ll get inside Isadora’s cage if I’m not watching and she’ll huff and get all angry marshmallow on him, full puff and hissing, and he’ll be ready to go toe to toe! She’s like 8 times his size! How do some of y’all have conures and other species?

He’s hilarious though, and we’re slowly (so so so so slowly) making progress on getting him comfortable with hands. Oddly enough, he’ll allow me to scoop him with two hands if he’s on me, but the concept of stepping up is absolutely beyond him.

That's exactly how Nala was. Almost completely silent unless something alarmed her. She was incredibly gentle and only bit me once in 11 years because a car backfiring scared her.

Bailey is the same as well. Only mostly alarm calls though every single time my husband sharpens the knives by hand, he calls with every swipe. Not sure if he likes the tone and is excited or hates it. Very gentle nips but I’m a wussy so i say ouch every time but if I’m honest , it doesn’t hurt :roflmao:

There’s a meme that has been floating around talking about if you’re not part of the solution, then you’re part of the problem, and somebody responding “I’m the whole problem.”

Bug is the whole problem.

I have been told that conures don’t back down from a fight, but I did not expect him to go out and start fights. And the problem is that he’s starting a fight with a bird that’s four times his size. He’s literally going to Isadora to pick a fight with her, and she’s the one backing down - for now.

Oh geesh yeah that's unfortunately a very common thing for Greenies to do. They think they're the size of Lions.

Yes Koopa GCC was lucky that Gizmo Hahns pulled her punches because those two could fight like cats.

I would be very careful with these two. Gizmo once told Jingo Quaker she didn't want to be preened and he still has a scar on his beak from it 12 years later, and she only was 50% bigger than him.

GCC have definitely lost their lives by taking on big parrots , they really don't have back down in them . And are often the instigator.

Yeah I definitely did not realize that he would be the one to stir the pot. Now I’m back to having to do cage rotation for the time being until I can be better certain that everybody is going to stay where they’re supposed to.
