Hello new to forum, first post. I recently took over a blue fronted Amazon from my uncle had him for a little over a week now, but I took him to the vet yesterday to have his nails trimmed and beak trimmed since his beak was little over grown and offset a bit. He had to be put under for the trimming, vet said he was very healthy and is fine. But my question is, last night he kept making regurgitation motions, and he’s not so talkie and whistley. And I heard like gurgle kind of sounds while he’s in his cage, is that because he’s regurgitating? Is this just stress induced from the change in his beak and he should be fine? Or do I go back to the vet? Also he’s more lethargic now, before the beak trim he was still a grumpy old man (32) now when I reach to pet him he doesn’t lunge at me. Here’s a couple before and after.

Why did he have to be put under?

Secret gets that done without anesthesia.

Was it an experienced avian vet?

Regurgitating means you are one of the flock. It can be parental feeding, courtship, or just springtime preparation for whatever. My zon starts it and I have to act like I don't notice or just say nothing and pet her head.

Do you know the testicles and ovaries are under the wings up near the shoulders? It's important not to pet anywhere but the head and neck. That said, I hold her every morning upside down and call it a "flipy kiss". When we are at the vet, when it's time to check her belly, I tell her its a flippy kiss.

She also knows to let me stretch out her wings, with the command, "Wingy-wingy". We do similar games with the toes, beak, and tail. She gets a treat after all that. Other games are Peek A Boo with a towel, and recall to my shoulder when I say, "Let's eat!"

She doesn't always cooperate, but she sure does better than other birds we've had who had to be toweled and were traumatized by a vet check.

If you know these things already, please disregard. Amazons are more like flying tigers than birds, imo.
