Sorry again! I think I found the cage that was recommended by @Mizzely in a color that is more appealing than that burgundy one. One thing that I noticed is that the cage bar are show to be 1/2 inch spacing, but then in another place it says 5/8 inch. I assume this is still fine? I know 1/2 is generally the rule.

(I have OCD, and I get very focused on numbers and precision. Right now, I've very focused on making sure the cage is a safe size for my little girl.)

Either of those gaps would be safe for a black cap :)

This is my favorite cage. It's A&E's "alternate" version of the one @Mizzely posted, rebranded by Wayfair. When you order it, it drop ships from A&E directly. It has the new feeder doors and D-shape bowls, plus the drop down porch on the front. I have 4, soon to be 5 of these cages (three for cockatiels, one quaker, and one GCC) and they are awesome.

Ended up getting the one @Mizzely suggested. It's a cool story. I called A&E to get the scoop on the cage being out of stock everywhere. Yep, as I suspected, they drop ship for all the retailers. The person I was connected with did some digging, and they found one for me in a color that works--yay for no burgundy! They even adjusted the price to match was I was planning to pay when it came back in stock, so I jumped on it as I didn't want to miss out on it. Cage should be here tomorrow. Interesting thing is that it's back in stock with Chewy as of today, which is surprising. But...I'm glad I directly supported a small business like A&E. The person I worked with was truly amazing.

Now I have to deal with the anxiety of switching Ari to her new "palace." If you all have tips for that, I'll take them. My plan is to get it set up and have her explore it while I'm at home for a good solid bit of time. I'll admit that leaving her the new cage while I'm away at work makes me nervous as I don't want something to "go wrong" while I'm not at home.

@caspin22 Wow! You have a HUGE flock.

Awesome! Did A&E sell it to you directly, and ship it?

And yes...we are insane. We are both lucky enough to work from home, so we're almost always around, and covered in bird. :)

A&E was really wonderful...just like you all are. Us "bird parents" are not always well understood lol. Most of my friends are dog and cat owners, so they don't get how different birds are. Don't get me wrong, dogs and cats--really any pet--can be a lot of work. Birds though...well, that's its own wild world. :laughing2:

Cage is here. Need to recruit a friend to help with assembly, which might take a few days. I will post a picture when it's all set up :)

Just gonna seek a bit of advice via this thread. This cage is decently bigger than her old one, which is so awesome. I didn't think of this bit, but it's going to be tricker to clean in my small apartment. Anyone have any tips or know the best part of the forum to see advice? My plan is to use the usual Dawn dish soap or cage cleaner, and then wipe it down with a water and a a wash cloth to get all residue off before I dry it. I don't have access to a hose, and I'm not keen on taking it outside since it would have to go down a couple of steps. I'm pretty good about keeping up with cleaning her cage, so it will never get really icky.

I rarely take my stuff outside to clean...I do use a steam cleaner to blast crevices a few times a year though! Just put down an old bed sheet first to catch the crud, shake it out, and wash :)

Cool. I was going to get a steam cleaner, but I thought to ask A&E what would be best to use to clean their cages. I was told that the high heat would be a concern if I did anything more than just spot treatment.

Anyone have any tips
Do you have a bathtub?
I wash my trays and grates in the bathtub using the shower head and a dish brush.
The cage I have is tall, like 2 metres tall, so I wash the cage sides and top by hand with a microfibre cloth and spray bottle, using a toothbrush to detail any bits that need more attention.
In my prev. home we had no bath, but our shower was quite large and I could get the cages in easily to wash (I had regular floor cages back then).

I can use the tub for the grate and tray. It's the rest that's tricky as the cage will not safely fit unless I dismantle it. I also don't think I'd be able to safely life it over the side of the tub.

I think scrubbing it down and making sure I wash off any residue of the soap or cage cleaner will work.

If you keep on top of cleaning it, then you can detail clean it in sections laying a towel/s under the cage to catch falling water.

With our little birds we can keep on top of the mess eaiser than those with bigger birds or lorikeets and other birds with projectile or large poops.

Perch placement helps a lot too to help keep clean making sure perch below don’t get popped on so it goes straight to grate

Interesting! I've been using a steam cleaner for 10+ years without any issues! But I don't use it on the whole cage. Just the harder to reach spots that trap bits of "stuff" over time.

Yeah, she was recommended for just spot cleaning. I was hoping to use it for overall cleaning. I might get something for hard spots, but I can't spend a ton on it. Was thinking this:

My main concern is getting off cleaner residue from overall cleaning.
