I am not sure if you can rinse too much or not. I tend to do it 2-3 times a day and give myself a pat on the back for remembering

Bird bread is different depending on who you ask. At the simplest definition, it is bread that is made without sugars, salt, and with minimal fats, etc, so that they are "healthy" for the birds to eat. Some people use them to get birds to eat pellets and veggies as many birds like the bready texture.

If your bird is already eating a healthy diet, bird bread may not be something you need to incorporate at all.

This website has several different bird bread recipes: Search Results for “Bird bread” – The Happy Cockatoo: Elle's Avian Cuisine

Easiest is to start with a healthy flour or pellet base (ancient grains are good for this, like spelt, amaranth, etc). Add an egg and some liquid (I like jarred baby food puree for a veggie boost, 1/2 cup liquid to 2 cups of flour or so) until you get a bread dough consistency, then pop it into the oven at 350F for until baked through, about 30 minutes usually.

Cant rinse too much as far as I am aware, sometimes my family members thought I might have forgotten to rinse so my sprouts often got three or four rinses a day from three or four of us in the house lol.

I have been told not to use seed mixes for sprouting as most of them are fortified- you might be best to check if your budgie seed mix is fortified and if so find some sprouting seeds to use instead of seed mix.

Many stores here sell them, I get mine online.

wow wow wow!! My birds are doing pretty well with switching from an all seed diet to chop, but i think bird bread would be good to get them to eat pellets ! thank you sososoososo much for the recipes :laugh:Also very glad im not over rinsing

I’ll have to ask my breeder about the seed mix as i received them in a very classy gravy tub :lol:I have tested them by sprouting in paper towel alone, Most online sources state as long as 80-90% of the seeds sprout its fine to feed:p Also… Pretty please send piccies of ur macaw:angel1: xD

It’s not about how many sprout, it’s about the added vitamins.

I’ve been informed but a few places now that fortified seeds should not be sprouted for our birds.
