Hello, I’m mainly a reader in Avian Avenue. There’s a lot of great advice in here. My Jenday Conure is not doing well. I’m afraid I’m too late. I had him to two different vets. The 2nd one was an Avian vet. Both vets are animate about pellets. He always had pellets available for him to eat, but always preferred a seed mixture. I never would see him actually eating the pellets, but would find broken pieces and crumbs in that bowl. The first vet did the blood work and he had a high blood sugar and uric acid. The second vet said that could be attributed to a vitamin A and D deficiency. she gave him a vitamin shot and told me to continue to converting him over to all pellets and in the meantime give him red palm oil in his food and raw veggies. Well, today he took his bath in his water bowl as usual, and he was ok this morning. I took a nap and headed downstairs to my computer for an hour or so came up to make dinner and he was still in the same place. I see drinking water at times, but he’s mainly sitting on his perch with his eyes closed. Now my husband has him sitting quietly on his chest and Oliver just threw up some water. If he’s diabetic and having some sort reaction due to high or low sugar, then I am at a loss. I don’t know what to do for him. I think tonight is his last.

Oh no I'm so sorry to hear this. Do you have an emergency vet you can take him to in the meantime?

No, the nearest emergency vet is more than an hour away and they’re only for dogs and cats.
I'm sorry :( I'd just keep him as warm and comfortable as you can if you can't hold him he should be an a small cage or crate with the perches as low as possible so he doesn't fall and maybe a soft blanket or towel for more cushioning just in case.
I know it's gonna be hard on a Sunday especially but in the morning I'd try to look as far away as you can for a vet that will see him if the ones you've gone to previously aren't open. I'm so sorry that yall are going through this.

I'm sorry you're going through this. How old is your bird? Does your Avian vet have an after hours number to call? They usually have them listed on their answering machine.

The important thing is to keep him eating, for me and my vet ,birds get to eat what they will eat if suick including seeds. Tho of course converting can be important but not more important than starving. You really need to weigh daily if converting. Different brand of pellets might be more to his liking. Veggies are important as well .
Keep him warm . High uric acid can make nauseous
Offer warm foods , like warm mashed sweet potatoes if will eat stuff like that , a little scrambled egg
What are the symptoms he had before going to vet ?
Red palm oil is easy to overdose from my understanding, be very careful to follow instructions

Please place him in an emergency area and keep eyes on him as well as you can. This could be a plastic tub with warm towels or something else. Try to keep him safe until you can take him into a vet. Hoping he stays with you :heart2:

I agree some food is better than no food right now. I would feed what he will eat; you can always try to add a bit of vitamin powder to his water to see if that will help while you work on diet stuff once he's stable.

He started having watery excretions a little over a month ago. Everything else was fine. The first vet I had him to treated him for infection since his gram stain came back abnormal. Went back 2 weeks later and they took his blood. My poor little bird was so stressed out that evening that I thought I was going to lose him then. He’s the same way tonight. Lethargic, his wings are drooping and his eyes are closed. He won’t eat and now he won’t drink. He was drinking earlier, but not now. His excretions are sometimes alright, but mostly watery. By the way, his blood sugar was very high and that could have been caused by stress. I thank he’s diabetic. Second vet said the uric acid could have been high due to a lack of vitamin A and D. I don’t know. All I know is that he is going to die.

You need to get in touch with the veterinarian and get your bird support and help. There is no reason he needs to die . They can support feed, give fluids , and hopefully get him back on track .
Birds can be tired the day After the vet exam, it's a lot of stress. But he should be eating. I would let him have whatever he wants to eat right now

Polyuria can have a lot of different causes. I wouldn't jump to diabetes, id first think infection, like a bacterial infection.

Offer him Millet spray , offer cut up apple , even a little applesauce. Offer what ever is his favorite treats
