My friend and I went walking at our local park during my lunch break and there's always a large flock of ducks and geese that hang out there so I slowly walked up to them and they weren't bothered by me at all so I stopped at an appropriate distance and crouched down to try to take some pics and this what I'm presuming female straight up ran up to me and my hand was kinda hanging balanced on my knee and she immediately started nudging it and nibbling my wrist so I flipped my hand over and she proceeded to nibble all around for about a minute and then just stood there looking at me for a bit before she waddled off.

Such an amazing experience that I'll always treasure and remember. Next time I'll have to remember to bring some frozen peas to share.

She sure acted like one, being a white duck which are often pets did make me wonder if she was a dumped pet because she looked a bit beat up on the back of her neck like some of the other ducks had a go at her.

Maybe she mated? Don’t males get a little rough in their affections?

They do indeed,I did wonder about that as well but she was a bit off from the rest of the flock when I came up on them. Maybe she was just feeling adventurous at that moment but she wasn't paired up like the others seemed to be at that moment. Hopefully her man was just out for a swim though vs her being alone and cast out from the others.

I think she’s domestic. Is no one going to help her?! :sad11:

Hopefully she'll end up acclimating if she was a pet. I don't know when ill be able to get out there again but I'll be sure to keep an eye out when I do. There are other white ducks there so hopefully she will be able to join properly if she hasn't already

Someone likely dumped her. My son found his Daisy that way. She was a pekin duck as well.
She needs to come home with you!

Ah man I wish I could. If I didn't live at an apt I'd definitely try to catch her and keep her.

Great pictures.
Wouldn't it be great if animals generally trusted humans like this. This duck and its flock are probably used to being fed by humans. You should bring some bread to feed them next time

Bread is actually quite bad for ducks, and honestly, habituation is not a good thing :( Not all humans should be trusted!

(Sign for coyotes but the message still applies! However, if you believe the duck is a lost or dumped pet, please try and surrender her to a shelter or call a local animal control agency for her safety).

You can always feed them birdseed or one of the many other foods they can eat.

I agree not all humans can be trusted but habituation is not such a bad thing, it's natural, it's just a smart animal making the most of its opportunities

I hear they enjoy sprouts as well. But peas and corn are favorites to my parents’ ducks.

Perhaps you could catch her and take her to a duck sanctuary? Just a thought.
I could try and see if I do end up coming across her again and go from there.
