Hi everyone! I need help figuring out my Sunny's diet. I get pellets for her, the Zupreem natural for medium birds. She eats a apple slice when I eat lunch, and I train her (clicker/target) and reward with sunflower seeds. She absolutely loves them. Her foraging toys algo have sunflower seeds.

I'm trying to get her to eat more healthy but I have no idea how to. I tried switching the sunflower training rewards for sliced almonds and spray millet and she doesn't like them enough to do tricks, she even bit me :).

I bought tricolor quinoa and broccoli but I'm so stuck and afraid of failing. Please help with this very picky and spoiled birbbbb.

Also, is an all pellet diet THAT bad? I thought I was being smart about my choices 1000190992.jpg 1000226653.jpg

Pellets aren’t bad at all! They offer nutrients the birds may otherwise not get. All of mine are on a mixed pellet diet with some seed mixed in (and we use flavored Zupreem, no one will eat the natural  ). There’s a lot of trial and error when it comes to feeding veggies - it’s been a couple years for me and I still have WAY more failures than successes under my belt.

She's a cutie! Just keep trying with the vegetables. It can take a while. Different vegetables, different sizes, fresh, frozen, freeze dried, etc. You can try putting them on a skewer too like a birdie kabob.

She is adorable. Like @sunnysmom said, keep trying different veggies different ways.
After 4 months of trying I finally have my cockatoo eating broccoli and green beans, which I kept giving, and she kept refusing.
Then I decided to have a plate of vegetables for lunch. So Miss Dolly (Umbrella cockatoo)came over to be nosey, as usual, and see what I was eating.
I made all the mmmm yummy noises, took a bite, offered it to her. She took a bite and dropped it. I picked up another piece and did the same thing again. This time, not only did she eat it; she picked up the first piece and ate that too.
I still go through days where she will be picky, but she's definitely trying different things now.
That's half the battle. :)

Thank you for all your responses! How bad are sunflower seeds for a conure? If there was a daily limit? Are they that bad? What would be a healthier alternative?

Sunflowers have nutritional value. They aren't bad. But higher in fat but as a training treat in moderation are fine.
