Meal prep day!

Diced up baby carrots, sweet potato, radish, kale, broccoli, mini peppers, jalapeno, and apple, with mixed in China Prairie sprout mixes. The littles will get most of this mix, but I also have been mixing in some with Ripley's pellets and he's been eating it that way.

PXL_20240503_194805350~2.jpg

Then some chunked up veggies to give to Ripley; the same as above minus Kale.

Gonna be honest and say I've been majorly slacking in the diet department for my birds.
But being sleep deprived told me to get my act together today. I made birdie bread a few days ago and cooked up some grains mix :)
Also really surprisingly I think the new budgies have already tried pellets and i haven't even been pushing them! They just get a bowl of pellets available 24/7 and I reduced their seed amount a tiny bit.

Omg, talk about slacking (which we might rename Shez! lol).... Burt and Birdie had left over plain pasta (from last nights visitor who requested carbonara for tea) peas and corn with chilli flakes and Squeak got a boring old cos lettuce leaf for breakfast today which will secretly make him happier than when I give him anything else.

Someone was too busy being anxious and annoyed that they have to socialise with many people later today and totally lost sight of the fact that the birds had no prepared food in the fridge o_O

Today's bowls! I'm still experimenting with mixing everyone's pellets and seeds into their chop. So far I feel like everyone has been eating better!

So you do everything all mixed? Then later do you put out more dry foods alone or only feed in meals like this? I wander if this will help my kid try more chop if he has to pick through it for his other stuff

Yes everything is mixed. It's still a work in progress so I don't have a concrete system going. Right now the littles (Linnie and Bourkes) are eating almost all of the chop; the chop that is left dries out. Then they are only eating the leftover dry pellets and seeds the rest of the time, so I've been just giving them this one meal with their whole day's food allotment at once. Realistically I should be doing two meals but it's working.

For Ripley ( Jardine's) I am giving him another dry portion later in the day because he doesn't eat as much of the chop overall.

Thanks! We have a baby GCC - he came home still on 3x a day hand feedings (didn’t realize how bad that could go as my literal first baby bird, and only 3rd bird ever, until finding this forum )
The parrotlets clean their bowl of any and all chop. I introduced him to warm steamed and mashed fresh foods and chop and he has not taken a liking to it yet at all even being introduced to it early at the same time as his pellets and things.

he is now on just a nightly formula feeding and chows down on any pellet, seed, nut etc but still will touch a veggie with his tongue and fling it and move on. So I may start offering it mixed then still offer just dry food later in the day so he still eats enough if the chop discourages him from eating much out of that bowl.

Example of end of the day bowls. Ripley ate quite a bit honestly (more than usual) but basically just chopped up the stuff he didn't want to eat. At least he's having fun

Yes we have tried in cage and out of cage. He came to us not started on any foods, just formula and I have tried since he was 5 weeks old to offer fresh foods at the same time as teaching him to eat pellets, seeds etc and he still won’t touch them! I didn’t think it would be this hard to get him to eat fresh foods if it was introduced as a baby alongside other things.

Just have to keep trying sometimes it’s just finding right way to serve but then some birds just won’t touch them no matter how hard you try just have to keep trying and hope one day he does

mine started best on grated carrots and broccoli sugar snap peas are a massive hit too and grated parsnips

you could always try freeze dry too

@Pixiebeak idea but veggies on a skewer near their favourite perch worked for pico who wouldn’t touch them he would at least peck a few bits every now and then but it might get him tasting it at least

if he’s on pellets he’s getting what he needs so try not to stress yourself or him too much

sprouting seeds is really good

Today's bowls:

Beet root, dandelion greens, a bit of kale, cooked tricolor quinoa, sweet potato, mini bell peppers, radish, and some mandarin oranges. Topped with parsley and a dandelion flower :) All mixed with their pellets and/or seeds.

PXL_20240510_144235517~2.jpg

Currently making some sprouts too; should be ready in the next day or two.
