Lotus 15 she just said she will not take CC - and she wanted the check overnighted to her ASAP - But first the cage wouldn't be ready until August then she said end of September; then she said sometime beginning of August then it was back to September or later. I was just talking to Macaw Lover last night - regarding how weird it is getting ahold of her. It's her personal cell and she won't say who she is until you say what you want. Then I have conflicting e-mails from her on pricing and the e-mails don't confirm what she said to me in a phone conversation, I remind her then she'll agree to honor that price only for the next e-mail to be a totally different price.

I guess if I can't get ahold of Beak face - I'll try that craig's list to see if that other cage is available or call Expandable habitat or Northwest.
If they were cheaper I would just take my chances with a generic brand like Avian Adventures but I've seen a lot of bad reviews. I actually cut myself on a cage at a bird store where they pieced together parts of different color cages. I can't remember if it was prevue or avian adventures - they were very flimsy I don't care how cheap they were. I would not put my bird in their cages.

I've had such back luck lately that I'm scared to death to part with money via a check. At least a CC you can file a complaint and retrieve your money (or at least I think you can)
I know people swear by expandable habitat - and I've had two kings cages before (they were destroyed in the hurricane) they don't make the size I had anymore.
I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND. I WAS NERVOUS THE FIRST CAGE I ORDER FROM ANIMAL ENVIRONMENTS. I WIRED ALL THE MONEY UP FRONT ! I HAVE HISTORY ON MY SIDE NOW. Just for the record I sent back a stainless steel cage from Kings. I was not the quality for sure I was looking for. Like I said in a letter I wrote to you earlier I am very picky customer. I opened one box and couldn't tape it up soon enough. I returned the Kings stainless steel cage immediately and they gave me a full refund. Now the aluminum cages are gorgeous but not strong enough for a Palm Cockatoo!

I have one old California Cage . . . . . . can't you let that owner know there are some of us that want them to come back??? Sure - some people will want cheap cages from China - but what about those of us that would spend more for quality???
I know the California Cage we got came from China. We recently replaced it.

Beakface - trying to reply to all your replies - thank you again for contacting me - Kings Cages is what I had before - I was going to do their SS but the size seems bigger than what I want and their smaller ones are too small - considering their price - I'd much rather pay for a Made in USA. Also, in addition to whatever was coming off of the powder coated one after the flood - the one that remained in the house (even though it was cleaned day after the storm) rusted. But shortly after I first purchased the Kings cages - I came home late - the birds were sleeping so I didn't turn the lights on - but I smelled something - the next morning - the little cockatiel must have cut herself on a sharp edge someplace on the cage that I wasn't aware of. There was blood everywhere - I felt horrible - I had to work a double that day - and the thought that she was home bleeding broke my heart. I went over every inch and found the spot filed it down and cleaned everything up - She was okay - but I now hear reports that the larger cages they now sell - the legs don't hold up. I was going to do the aluminum but can't find the size that I want - and I'm picky - I really don't think I want that as part of my household furniture. If the price was really, really less than a SS - I might consider it - but I don't like the idea of plastic feeding cups. My Pinous would be full of plastic he likes to chew whatever he can get his little beak on - LOL

Just want to get my birds home ASAP - now that all the construction is complete.

When I ordered my Kings cage it was suppose to have stainless steel cups, I payed extra, they discontinued them! My Rose Breasted broke the plastic feeding cups several times. The plastic locks do break if your not careful. I broke 4 locks the first 6 months and its not cover under any kind of warranty. I did write earlier about the Kings stainless steel cage, I sent it back right away! Good luck to you and your search. You get what you pay for. I am really thinking of ordering a small stainless steel cage for my canary! Its a bit over the top but I am so spoiled with Carmens work!

Great thread!

In the 90's, I bought an Animal Environments Acacia with the removable playtop for a cockatiel. I believe the company was called Avian Environments back then. What a well-built, elegant cage that was. I especially appreciated tts clean lines and solid structure that added to the decor of any room, as well as the exterior-mounted stainless steel feeder cups. The playtop was just as good. The cage looked great with and without it on top, and liked being able to carry the playtop into another room. These days most of their models strike me as small, which might be partly why I see almost no mention of them anymore.

My two budgies are in plastic-based King's Cages. With the exception of the 18x18's vertical bars and the slightly inconvenient door lock (a blocking rod that slides through top and bottom eyelets), it's a good cage. The 18x14 model has horizontal bars on the sides, which of course would be nice for the 18x18 cage too. The King's was recommended to me over the Prevue Clean-Life 18x18x22 that the bird store also stocked at the time. They said that the bottom is known to drop off, which I've also heard about in online reviews. I looked at both cage's attachments, and the King's definitely looks more secure.

I bought the Petco 18x18x30 finch cage, but returned it the next day because of its flimsy construction and awkward front door. Between that, the Clean-Life, and the Featherstones, I'm not very fond of Prevue. The Prevue 25x21x29 Offset Roof model, however, does look like a very nice cage for two budgies. King's makes cages of the same size. I've seen both in person, and the King's felt a little more solid. That will probably be my next budgie cage.

Back at the top end of the market, I'm very impressed by the Expandable Habitats small bird cage. The only potential drawback I see is that it looks (to me) like a lab cage and would probably be out of place in many home decors.

I just read on Expandable Habitats' Product Info page why they don't use horizontal bars. Makes sense, and I'm happier with my 18x18 now.

I have had great service from both A&E & Kings.

I have a A&E 40 x 32 x 74 (U2) and a HQ 40 x 32 x 74 (M2), both have the drop down front platform (which I love), both have stood up well to very active toos.

That's funny because that' s what is holding me back from ordering the cage - do I really want that in my living room?

I thought my EH cage would look a bit strange in my living room..but that's really the only room it would comfortably fit that we spend a lot of time in and it's open to most of the house.

Since this photo was taken I've changed the inside of the cage...but this cage is very spacious (48Lx30W). The design has grown on me the longer I've had it. But I can't say enough how easy this cage is to clean! Takes me maybe 5mins to change paper and clean the bars from food/poops. Also can't say enough good things about customer service!

Wow, that's a nicer picture than what's on their site, how are the feeing cups - the picture they sent me look like the ones you buy in the store to add to your cage. Are they easy enough to change out - I like to change the bowls and put in fresh each day. I'm looking at the 36x30 - I originally was going to do the 30x24 -

I also like how you thought outside the cage - LOL - I never would have thought of putting things facing outside. By Rory loves to climb and sit on the top of his old cage, so making it a playground with perches - etc - is a great idea.

Thank you! It's hard to really get a feel for these cages until you have it in your house--very nice sturdy cage once you get it put together. The cups I have in this cage are KING30 King's Cages Stainless Steel Bolt-on Cup 30 oz - STAINLESS STEEL BOWLS and they are very easy to take in/out without the bird being able to dump the bowls. I hardly use the bowls for food though--mainly a few pellets and toys for Bella to rummage through. I serve most of their food (which is predominantly fresh foods) in a variety of ways and in foraging toys. I'm always changing out stuff on the outside of the cage--sometimes I hang a boing, rescue rope, swing or atom from the toy hook. I actually have a new swing that should be here this week to hang on it..or it might go in the cage. I also have a "play area"set up on top as well since Charlie likes to hang out on top of Bella's cage. toAnother thing that EH has that I recently got was one of those swivel perches (the birds can't move it but you can adjust it so it's at an angle or really however you want it)...it's a cool perch and comes in handy. What species is Rory?

I have two - Rory is a Pionus (white capped) and I have a cockatiel - they both used to have a kings cage (powder coated) 27x24 - the one was totally destroyed after Sandy - the other was removed from the house - cleaned - then I got it back and there was a weird residue (black, blue and green) depending on how many times I cleaned it - I would let it sit and it would come right back. I couldn't even think about putting them in it - I just got my birds back - and I figured they've been in one cage - rather than buying two I could afford to buy one really good cage - and after what I saw come off of the powder coated one and how the other one although cleaned rusted through completely - I'm opting for SS now.

Hello - I've found this thread most valuable and this is my first post. I have a King's 306 stainless cage and am interested in obtaining another. My first one was purchased about 6 years ago and works great. After reading about King's now manufacturing in China, I called them. In speaking to several of their customer service people, they all say that the matte stainless cages are made in the Czech republic - still. Not China. So, I am somewhat confused. It seems to conflict with what has been written about here. Could it be that its just the powder coated ones that are made in China? Any enlightenment appreciated.

I agree that the stainless steel looks much nicer in your picture. I can see how you'd get used to it, especially in terms of form following function.
I mean there are "prettier" cages out there but in terms of quality, customer service, functionality and ease of clean..plus not having to replace the cage (like you do with powder coated due to rust or birds stripping the coating) EH for me wins hands down.

I really do love EH cages now after having this one! Really hard to beat the amazing customer service, ease of cleaning/changing cage papers and how roomy it is!! You might want to check out @lotus15 blogLola’s cage | Search Results | Coco's Flock I really love looking at her set up for her EH cage! She has some great pics of basically every angle of her EH Cages if you scroll through and/or search for EH cage reviews on her blog.

Great question, but unless something has recently changed, I don't think that's correct. I and several other members have spoken to Mr. King himself as well as other managers at King's and they have consistently told me that their cages are no longer made in Europe but rather in China. I believe all of the boxes of the cages also state that they are made in China. If they have moved production back to Europe that'd be great news, but one would think they'd advertise that on the site as that would be a huge selling point (they don't). Looking at their website, on the product pages for their matte stainless steel cages, none of them state country of manufacturing. One of them states that the stainless steel itself is sourced from Sweden and Germany (King's Cages - Avian and Pet Bird Cages, Supplies, Food, Toys, Perches, Aviaries, Pluck No More but it doesn't state where the cage is actually made/manufactured/welded. I believe that this is why they no longer call them European Cages but rather European "Style" Cages.

As an update to the King's cages place of manufacture. I finally spoke to Andrew King regarding where his SS cages are now being made. Today, all of the matte finish SS cages are manufactured in the Czech republic. Apparently, a couple of years or so ago, King's tried manufacturing of these in China. They had problems with the 304 stainless that was being used, it was not as advertised and could rust. So they then moved manufacturing back to the Czech republic and are using Swedish/German 304 SS for these cages. Andrew said these cages all have the matte finish. Cages that have a bright finish would be the earlier ones made in China. None of this information pertains to powder coated cages - I didn't get into that as I would never use that type of cage for my parrot. Hope this clears the air.

Oh woah....mine told me to get the biggest but cheapest, flimsiest cages I could find cause they hate them anyways!!! And that kind is easier and fun to break out of.... And they love the scrunched up look on my face when I find another piece, lock, or thingie on the floor..so much so that they laugh at me.
Just thought I'd insert a bit of humor ..... My demolition Mac has a Bennet's LOVE it but sure wasn't in my budget...
