I just rescued Willow from his cage after he started screaming bloody murder and staring around him like he’s seeing ghosts. I don’t know what it is, but there’s something terrifying in the living room.
I tried to step Willow up but then he flew and ran screaming. I brought him in my bedroom and he’s on his basket consoling himself with an avicake.
i don’t know what the scary thing was; didn’t notice any cranes or ambulances, but Willow is not pleased. Maybe he just needs some cuddling time.
I’d love if I could figure these things out. I am being intensively snuggled right now. Poor little guy.

Anything new and shiny causing light refraction? That used to set my Quaker off - such a scaredy bird.

I haven’t bought anything new. But there might be something outside the window.

Willow is being snuggled. I hope I can figure out what it is, or that it goes away. That’s the most noise I’ve ever heard him make.

Valentine screams when she see's the guy next door. As soon as he is out of sight she is fine but she too wants snuggles.

Willow may also have realized his terrible need for avicake, or maybe Jasper was whispering threats across the living room. anyhow we’re cuddling and since I’m still recovering (from covid or similar) that’s fine. I wonder if he will be ok soon to go back in his house. There’s a small cage in the bedroom but it’s not setup for long stays.

Well we've had mice get into the house and if any birdy spots them they tend to freak out. We have snap traps and a pest guy but they come and go with the season and as we discover ways in and block them.
I guess it depends on where and what you live in but something to consider. Pippen started screaming one morning and everything seemed fine and eventually she calmed down so I went back to bed.
I woke up later hearing a occasional thump and went out to investigate and found a mouse I didn't notice had his tail caught in the snap and was trying to run behind our storage cabinet in the dining are against the wall. I put on gloves and released him outside and we called our pest guy again and found some more holes to block.

We’re in one of the few high rises in our city. I’ve seen mice in the bushes outside but I don’t think one could get up here. But good point—it could even be a moth or spider in his window. Jasper (Meyers parrot) is chirruping in the living room so it doesn’t seem to be bothering HER.

anyhow Willow is back in his cage after some yells of wrath when entering the living room. He chuckled upon walking into his cage and tail wagged so I think we’re good for now.

Ralph did the same thing one day last week. He was in his favorite playstand, the dishwasher, moving a small plate back and forth (it's an old plate that stays in the dishwasher for him to play with. If it got taken away, Ralph would get upset with me and I would be Quaker cursed). All of a sudden he started a Quaker alarm call and flew back to his cage, still screeching. I looked all over the kitchen and beyond and couldn't find anything different or potentially upsetting. Ralph settled down after sitting on top of his cage for a few minutes and was ready to return to the dishwasher and resume playing. Could be that the ghost of a former tenant came by to visit but I sort of doubt that. Anyone who has moved out of here isn't likely to want to come back.

I think whatever it was, is gone. There’s some construction nearby and maybe one of the vehicles was coming through? Lucy made that scream for ladder trucks.
Willow was happy to go back to his cage this afternoon, and Jasper wasn’t upset at all.

Jasper and I just finished a long visit and scritches; she was about the happiest bird in the world to be out. I thought my ear was going to get fed; she was so excited and regurging until she almost fell off my arm.
She did her trick (turning around) really well and I got her to stay on the bird tree near me, eat treats, and chew on her hanging toys. I hope she’ll continue to use the tree without needing immediate rescue.

Burt used to scream like his life was about to be ended when he saw anything that fluttered about in the air, birds, leaves, dragonflies, butterflies, flies, mozzies, moths, mini fruit flies/vinegar flies and even his own darn floofies! We were absolutely gob smacked when he sat silent and intrigued, even calmly turning if he had to so he could keep watching the microbat that somehow found it’s way inside his room and even flew through his cage
Sometimes I’m sure they find stuff to fuss about to keep us busy and on our toes!

It makes you wonder how they can survive in the wild if insects and fluffies are terrifying. Lucy was terrified of insects and wailed when she saw one. But this was blood curdling.

I think I’ve figured it out!
Willow had another bout of terrified screaming this morning. I came to check on him and saw that there were workers on top of a building’s roof across the alley. He could see them through the window and felt that they should not be there!

The workers were what upset him so this morning, to the point that I almost got but when I opened his cage. Willow was anxious to get away from his cage and the disturbing spies or visitors outdoors.

I wonder if that’s what happened last week when I first noticed the terror line the living room.?

That's a strong possibility. Parrots have such good eyesight they seldom miss anything they can see through a window, even when it's a good distance away. And if it's something they think shouldn't be there they are likely to have something to say about it. In the case of QPs, that might mean an alarm call.

He saw something that looked out of place and possibly dangerous to his flock so he sounded off to warn everyone. Nerd bird used to warn us about hawks out side, must have worked as we never got carried away. We always told him thank you and what a good watch bird he was. For Pionus it's hard wired into them. One bird goes up high and watches for danger while his flock forages and leads their lives raising babies etc. Another bird will go up after a while and take his place so he can eat and rest and they keep trading off.

Huh. My Pionus used to honk at the geese every spring and fall. It was funny but kind of sad. She got so excited and couldn’t seem to understand that these were big creatures that did not want to fly away with her.

Willow was fine this afternoon when the workers were gone from the roof. It’s sure nice to be so well protected. Lucy would have invited them in, especially if I was in the bathroom.

While I was gone this morning (to dentist), Christmas lights were hung around the eaves of the small store next door. The morning must have been blood-curdling. Poor Willow.

He’s fine now. Wanted lots of snuggles until suddenly he was done. My, it’s dark really early!
