Hoping someone can shed some light on what is going on with my girl regarding length of time at night she should be sleeping. I cover her at 8pm and get her up next morning at 8 or 9am. Problem is she is getting herself worked up until she goes for a nap (covered up) at about 11 or 12 lunchtime. She is not eating properly until after her nap and is a lot calmer. She naps for about an hour or so. She is not dozing in the daytime much either. She is out of cage most of day near me or in bedroom at night and naptime. Should I leave her to sleep longer each morning? Has anyone else found their cockatiel needs more than 12 hours at night? Is she simply overstimulated?

I actually give my birds a nap time as well - we usually are up and at ‘em around 6am, nap (covered) from 1 to 230 or so, and then out and about until bedtime at 6-7pm. My tiels are usually pretty ok in the afternoon, but I have a cockatoo that’s basically a toddler and she definitely needs the afternoon nap time.

Both my parrots do nap in the middle of the day. My Quaker will get wound up like a human toddler that's overtired if he doesn't get quiet time during the day, flying around super fast squeaking and hollering about how he's NOT TIRED at bedtime :)

She has since got weirder. She won't nap, squeaks the whole time but is wound up and being a demanding, screaming ball of feathers by 2 pm. She is also pigging out on veges and fruit which she wouldn't barely touch before. I have tried chamomile tea which she is loving but I don't notice a difference in her chilling. I am now wearing earplugs covered by headphones (noise cancelling). She is also being loving and a typical Velcro cockatiel.
