I would not use it if it smells that means some oil was on it during the curing process :hug8:

I'd definitely not use it. If you got it from a hardware store it most likely has oil on it. If its smelly, has a 'shininess' to it, and is a golden color to it, it's not safe.

I get my bird safe sisal from here.

If you had to wash it that many times and crap was still coming out of it, common sense would tell "me" it's not safe.

Think of it this way you did not waste your money, you can use it outside -it is great to tie up tomato plants, or anything really

I bought some at the Dollar tree when i got home it smelled like it was from a Garage(motor oil is what i smelled) So i used it to tie the pole of my kids badminton net to a metal rod so it would stay up so they could play it , we used it to tie the net around the trampoline(the cords that came with the safety net were too short and keep coming off)

have some in the truck to tie things down with - so it wasn't a waste of money after all

DO you have a Jo- Ann Fabrics? I know online their website shows Natural Sisal - but my local store was out, so i got Natural hemp and Natural Jute - the Jute faintly smelled of Dirt(Which I read it is supposed to if it is really Natural) I also read the Natural hemp should have a "earthy" smell to it I wasn't expecting to go take a big sniff and smell cow manure though lol

also you can try Local Craft stores but even then SMELL before you buy - I went to one of mine and it said Natural Sisal - smelled like motor oil just like the one from Dollar Tree

It's really hard to find it locally. You'll most likely have to order it online. I am having a really hard time ordernig anything over 5/8" that isn't treated! :(
