Dear Avians, I am proud to say that my single mother lovebird has finally hatched her very first egg! Why is she single? I don't know, the husband is always near, but she doesn't like him. Anyways, she laid a total of 4 eggs and today, egg number 1 has hatched! Now I am a bit worried on what to feed the mother. As of now, I am feeding her bird seeds, corn, millets, and mixed veggies. Do I need to feed her millet powder for her to feed her little babies?

i’m not to sure about what to feed her so she can feed her chicks, but i will say make sure she’s on a good calcium supplement. egg making and laying takes a lot of calcium out of the body.

Protein is important for a babies growth. I suggest hard boiled egg, but mash it prior to feeding so it’s easier for the mom bird. And also Petamine nestling formula, it’s a powder you sprinkle on top of her food so that way her babies get all the crucial nutrients they need to healthily grow :) lmk if it works out !

Ideally you would feed a pellet or egg food (the dry stuff that comes in a packet, it's created to give the vitamins they need).

The mother will feed the food she eats to the chicks, you don't need to change her diet for the chicks as long as she is healthy.

She laid the eggs 3 weeks ago. She should have recuperated by now.

Thank you, i shall not change her diet but I will add in egg food into her diet. On another note, I realise she has been vomiting her food in her nesting area, causing the baby to be covered in her vomit as well. Is this normal?
