Sick Budgie - Need Help!

Hi, I am seeking desperate help.

I had two budgies, Blá and Gulur, and one of them passed already. I live in a Scandinavian country where there is NO avian vets. Thus your help is very important (please!). I have been living with parrots for 20 years, so I trusted my observation a lot.

They got sick on 1st March, where they exhibited respiratory infection. Gulur had wheezing sound when breathing and Blá was sneezing. The vet said it was air sac mites and only offered them vitamin. Since then, Blá has very watery poops /diarrheas.

On 12 March, I went back to the vet because they showed no improvement but got worse. She prescribed antibiotics to them. But unfortunately Gulur could not make it and my heart was completely shattered.

Since then, Blá still has diarrheas, somedays are better somedays are worse. 60% of the watery poop has little string of "soild-ish" poop in there. She still eats and drinks and plays and sings.

On 27 March, I added multi-vitamin from Trixie to her water for 24 hours. She has since shows worsen signs of very-frequent diarrheas!! She still sings and eats and plays.

I removed the multivitamin on 28 March, and now it´s almost 48 hours, and she still gets very watery, very-frequent diarrheas, which even A4 paper cannot absorb the water.

Again, there is no avian vets in this country, only vet. And since my last visit to the vet, I do no trust them anymore.

Can you share your thought please? Here are the photos taken today and yesterday.

Hello, so sorry for the loss of one of your budgies. :sad1:

Can you post pictures of the watery droppings?
Half of the times are just water :(
It got really bad after the 24-hour when I gave her multi-vitamin. I changed the paper every 4-5 hours.

She is still playing and singing.

If shes still active and singing then that means she feels well, which is good news.

Have you changed her diet at all? Is she eating veggies and getting excess water by any chance?

About 2 years ago, one of my birds developed watery droppings as well. Took him to the vet twice, and both times they prescribed antibiotics. The antibiotics helped his poop go back to normal, but a couple days after his treatments his poop would start getting watery again. I found these probiotic tablets on Amazon which had many reviews from people claiming it fixed the wet poops for their birds. So I bought it and tried it and it actually worked. As long as I keep giving it to my bird, his poops are normal. I’ve been doing this for about 2 years now. They are tablets that dissolve in water. Its called “Alive & Well” by Oasis if you want to try it out. I had created a thread about the watery droppings if u wanna read through it.

Here is the probiotic I’m talking about: https://www.amazon.com/OASIS-Stress...rdc=1&sprefix=alive+well+oasis,aps,129&sr=8-1

Every day?
I have 8 budgies. So their water bowl lasts about 3 or 4 days until its time for a refill. I actually use one of those tube type water dispensers and it holds a 1/4 of the water required for each probiotic tablet. So I split each tablet into 4 pieces and use 1/4 tablet everytime I refill the water tube.

Thanks for sharing, and I did check out your thread on watery pooping, glad he/she is okay!

I did not change Blá´s diet. It all happened after she got sick / visited the vet and took vitamins + antibiotics, which happened on the same day.

It got worse (from loose poop / watery poop to only urine for 50% of the time) after I gave her multi-vitamins for 24 hours. She is still active and eating, drinks relatively more water probably due to dehydration (still not a lot of water).

We are on a remote island in Scandinavia, so Amazon does not cover our region. There is only one bird store but I will check with them to see if they have probiotics. But I am also worry that any additional contents will make her worse, just like the multi-vitamins :(
