Hi everyone
I have a lovebird rescue (Theo) that probably escaped from his owner or was released. I am posting all over social media, contacting the vet, etc. Hoping that I could reunite him with his owner. He looked well taken care of and wasn’t clipped. He deserves to be returned to his owner.

The day that he was found we rushed him to the avian Vet. No blood test was done due to his critical condition. PBFD negative. His beak was cracked and I couldn’t understand the avian vet's comments that it could be related to an immunity issue. So I dismissed the beak diagnosis. The lovebird propbably bumped into something that caused his beak to look cracked/peeling.

I have him in a separate room to quarantine him for 30 days & get blood work done.
Here is the problem I have 2 female lovebirds they are bonded & sun conure. They have their room where they get to fly freely.

I don’t even know if I cannot locate his owner and end up keeping him. We don’t have a proper shelter that takes birds. Mostly it’s dogs or cats. I have no clue how to get 3 birds to accept the new rescue. I worry the connection of my bonded pair would change and hate each other to fight over the male lovebird to mate with.
I’d love to learn & if anyone has had a similar situation as mine. Thank you all

Yes, actually very similar.
I had two male lovebirds, and one day my dog alerted me to the back door where I found a lovebird on the doorstep (at first I though it was my second male but quickly realised it was not). She was female, in good shape (not underweight) and also took a bang to the beak.
My boys weren't bonded so when the time came that they were introduced, the younger male hit it off with her instantaneously. Having two bonded birds, I would think for you it would be more similar to a person bringing home a third bird, like @Momo & Mido or @TikiMyn perhaps.
I quarntined my found bird in the kitchen where I found her as my boys were in the living room across the hallway, separated by two doors. Not ideal but it was all I had to work with. She lived there for a month before I gave her a name and let her meet the boys.
I did keep searching for her owners even after I let her integrate into the flock, even if it just meant I could let someone know their escaped bird was safe. After many years I believe I know where she came from and I suspect she was given her marching orders.

It is impossible to know how your birds will react to a new bird. You could always try and see what they think of him, and if it doesn't work out, find him a loving home where someone will take good care of him.

My heart is melting seeing the little feather floof she’s so cute!!

I agree I don’t know how they will react to the new rescue. A few ppl have suggested I keep him for breeding purposes. That is a big fat NO! I have no intention to do that.

I'm not sure if he’s safe to be around the rest of the flock. Unsure what type of tests he requires to be clear?

Sadly the Middle East it’s the worst in surrendering lost pets to shelters. Some don’t view pets as family just toys to be discarded which sickens me. I should start searching for a potential adopter if things don’t work out with the 2 lovebirds.

PBFD, psittacosis (chlamydia) and polyoma.

I have no intention to do that.
If the new bird is male and your birds are definitely female, if they do end up switching pairs and a hen pairs with him, you can switch out eggs for dummy's or boil them, replace. They can even mate without letting them breed. No nests boxes or snuggle huts, keep the cage floor clear, and have an inspection daily.

I'd be curious to read how things go when the introductions happen :)

hello all here’s the update
After I quarantined him for 30 days, I booked an appointment with the doctor and asked him for the tests that Zara recommended to me.
Unfortunately, a polyoma test was not available and it would take a while to receive the results so the vet suggested I to do another that they currently offer.

I feel so sad about the result, and tomorrow will be calling the vet. I don’t know what to do. I feel so attached to him he’s healthy he’s cuddly like a beautiful sunshine.

Has your flock been exposed to him yet?
Avian tuberculosis is infectious and can be transmitted to humans too, so you will have to practice extreme caution moving forward to keep your birds and yourself clean.
You should speak with your avian vet asap to start a treatment plan and hopefully he can overcome this illness and be allowed to stay in the flock.

No, I haven’t yet I’m the only one spending my time with him separately. I’d wash my hands sanitize change my clothes once I’m done interacting with him 30min

I wasn’t sure about this I had no idea that it could be infectious to humans as well. which means a Long Exposure a month plus with him so I need to get myself checked. @Zara

I’m worried now I don’t know if I missed something and passed it to my flock.

I have found this;
"Human Health Considerations There are many authenticated cases of M. avium infection in people, although humans are considered highly resistant to this organism. Avian tuberculosis is generally considered noncontagious from an infected person to an uninfected person. Infection is more likely to occur in persons with preexistent diseases, especially those involving the lungs, and in persons whose immune systems are impaired by an illness, such as AIDS or steroid therapy"

I am not very familiar with this but my limited understanding is that it's contagious but not super contagious. So although the bird should be housed separately of course from the rest of your flock until treatment is completed/cured and proper precaution should be taken, I don't think you should panic. I also believe it's really rare for people to catch it. I was told it's more likely if working with a large infected flock than a single bird. I'm sorry the little cutie got this diagnosis. I hope he'll be okay. Of course, discuss all of this with your vet.

@sunnysmom @Zara thank you both for the warning & guidance of these tests results.
I spoke to the Vet dr today he explained that I shouldn’t be worried about him passing it to me.

The Vet Dr suggested that I send him to the clinic to be monitored and to redo the test. If TB is detected he will be euthanized. I asked him about the treatments and he told me they usually don’t survive that’s why euthanizing the birds is a must.

Theo was so happy when he saw me expecting me to let him out:cry:. It hurts to leave him there. I made sure to leave plenty of millets for him. Since he’s going to be quarantined for 1-2 weeks.

I tend to wonder if he got infected from one acquaintance who stayed over with her African gray with us . She would take him out daily to the bird market, fully exposing him to all sorts of avian disease. There was a time that both of these birds were in the same room.

Update
I’m so grateful that I received the call today
he tested 2x negatives.:bliss:
My vet pretty much assured me not to bother testing myself but I did. It was negative. I never imagined there are so many of these mycobacteria avian & marine etc …

The vet explained to me he would see these type of faulty tests results & redo the test again. By changing the name & address due to the technical issue.

Health wise Theo is anemic & dehydrated. He’s not interested at all with fruits & vegetables. He’s addict to TOPs pellets & been feeding him Harrison’s and little bit of zupreem.

I am isolating him again just for 2 weeks as my vet advised me.
