Only bought one cage new. The rest gotten slowly second hand. I like the flat tops, I have a sheet of acrylic on top of each. Great for attachment of perches, setting out bowls and platters and foraging. Suspension perch highway above
Oooo!!! Love, love your "highway." Haha. I have been considering using acrylic and more above-cage enrichment opportunities. Where did you get your sheet of acrylic? Did you have to order to get the right dimensions?

You can go to lowes or home depot and I believe they will cut it to your specifications

Yes I went to home depot I think. They actually had sheets precut that exactly fit the top of my cages!!@ so perfect ! But as mentioned will cut if you ask.

Keeps toes safe if a bird is in cage and another walks across the top. Plus no yucky poop or food falling down into cages. Cleans up so nice! Let's light in! No dark blankets making it all nesting or cave like

I used screw in ceiling hooks ( they tell you how much weight they can hold) and heavy weight fishing line to hang down to the height that works. None of my smaller birds have messed with it, and less visual clutter. But for larger beaks tie the fishing line to plastic chain ( available at home depot or Lowes) to above their head height when standing on the perch. They can't climb the fishing line up to chew on ceiling or the metal ceiling hooks. If you use chain or rope the whole length they can and will! Make sure to hang the perch far enough from wall , moldings, window furnishings that they can't kean over and chomp. Ha , had to replace my blinds because I made that mistake the first time

Thank you so much for the tips! I have cockatiels, so small beaks, but these are great tips!!

Thought I’d join the fun and add my expanding cage setup. Each of the babies have their own space. Tho, the grass is always greener on the other side and the minute they come out they want to be in the other cage. They love climbing in their branches when they are out of their cage. 7B83BD70-634B-4989-A054-324BEFD9DB0B.jpeg 06384405-04CE-4ADE-A8C8-1F099AA0578B.jpeg CAA6B629-EEDE-4EB8-B500-18F11027F281.jpeg

Nice, where did you get all of your tree branches at? My fids would love that

All you need is a 7 year old boy and a bunch of woods lol! He gathered “the best sticks” and then we identified the trees they came from to make sure they were ok. We scrubbed them really good and let them dry in the sun. We attached them with heavy duty zip ties. Full disclaimer neither of mine are big chewers but we have had no problems and they’ve had them for over a year.

If your bird chews , preens or plays with the fibres then they can ingest them and end up with impactions. Not all birds mess with the fibres. Some fibres are more likely to cause impaction than others.

I watch Burt like a hawk if he has cotton rope on anything because sometimes he likes to fluff the cotton fibres which concerns me, Birdie on the other hand has a cotton ring swing and does not ever chew the fibres so he is safe for the rope perches and toys.

Yesss. My male Budgie isn't a big toy guy - the female doesn't chew/eat the perches BUT she likes to climb/suspend herself the toys with...dangly rope bits and have them surround her. I also snip the ends if I feel like they look enticing and if she did fixate or try to chew them id pull them out.

I got a new cage for Apollo, my maroon bellied conure, a few weeks ago when I moved into a new apartment. The box at the top right is there to keep him from messing with his uv lamp when he's on top of the cage.

Also put in a couple pics of stuff he has outside of the cage (this is Apollo's apartment, I just live here, haha).

It looks like maybe a critter nation ferret cage? Lots of folks have succeeded in using those for their birds.

Yep! It's the double Critter Nation without the divider between the top and bottom.

Most of the bird cages I looked into that were as big as I wanted either had inappropriately wide bar spacing or seemed to be kind of flimsy with small doors. This one has half inch bar spacing, is heavy duty, has huge doors, and doesn't have those little sliding doors he can get out of (in his old cage I secured them with pear links, but he figured out how to unscrew those, so I started using those plastic chain links and just hoping he wouldn't pull them hard enough at the right angle to take them off).

Here's Daisy the Red Bellied Parrot's cage. It's an HQ 32"x23" Dome Top. She loves the drop down "porch" and except for sleeping, spends far more time on her cage than inside it.

Here's Ollie the Cockatiel's cage. This is an A&E 32"x21" "elegant top" flight cage. I love the 1/2" bar spacing, and horizontal bars on all 4 sides of the cage, and the drop-down little porch. Ollie isn't in the photo because he's on the play stand at the moment.

I LOVE THAT! one thing that I recommended (and I’m not trying to shame you, that is an amazing cage!) is just make sure your birds don’t eat that rope, cause it can cause health issues in the future.
