Hi everyone!
Hope all of you are well, and your flocks are happy and healthy.

The Crown Prince is doing really well, and is 6 months old tomorrow!!! Not sure where 3 months has gone, but thought I'd post a couple updated pics for everyone.

Thanks everyone, I know as his human I'm supposed to think he's the most amazing and adorable ball of grey feathers, but I appreciate everyone else gushing over him. Kinda hard not to fall head over heels with baby greys...

And yes Emma, it's really been three months...okay officially 3 months next Wednesday, but who's counting!

He is adorable.

I love black and white pictures of African Greys. It truly shows the scallops and shades of grey.

Amazing, exhausting, joyous, worrisome ...and the list goes on. The first month was amazing and highly exhausting. Little man had wings and definitely knew how to use them, except for those moments when he'd forget how to brake and would take a header into the windows. Even mini blinds didn't completely solve the issue, so....as heart breaking as it was, his vet and I discussed and decided that clipping his wings was probably the best option. He became very depressed for a few weeks, until the day he figured out he could still flap his way across moderate distances, He couldn't get much lift, but he could still cruise from his room to the kitchen [about 18 feet] and to other places he enjoyed being. Slowing him down has resulted in far fewer crashes, and has allowed him to get a little maturity/understanding of what's safe and what isn't. So, hopefully this will be the first and last time we do this clipping thing.

Otherwise it has been a magical mystery tour of new foods, new toys, new people, all of which he seems to take in stride. He's not very interested in the new people thing and tends to cling to me. He's not afraid, just not interested in getting close to others...can we spell V-E-L-C-R-O????? :wideyed:

His favorite color is yellow [and sometimes orange], big on foot toys, and his favorite food appears to still be peas. I'm essentially doing the raw whole food diet with him [Dr. Jason Crean's method], and he gets all excited when I start putting a new batch of soak seed/grain and nuts together. He's also a big fan of dried flowers, especially floating in his bird tea. We're still deciding how we like our veggies/fruit....chopped, chunks, on a skewer, in a dish ...all over the kitchen table  But so far he seems to like most everything I offer, even beets and brussell sprouts! Yippie!!!!

Attempting to talk is not high on his list yet, but he does like to "sing", which is pretty darn funny. My head is still a part time landing strip, but that has also slowed down a bit, for which I am grateful. So, all in all it's been a very eventful 3 months...can't wait to see what the next 3 bring!

Some of you may already know that I lost my lifelong beloved companion in April, after 38+ years together. The past 7.5 months have been a complete emotional rollercoaster to say the least.

I always said, if IQ left this world before me, there'd never be another big bird in my home. Like a lot of things in life, this too was easier said than done. After a great deal of thought, and countless sleepless nights (we won't even talk about the gallons of tears) it became clear that I just don't function without feathers.

Because I'm of a certain age, I tried for months to adopt a grey from a rescue; older person, older bird made sense. Evidently, even after being accepted for adoption in several places, an older bird was just not meant to be.

So, I located a fabulous small breeder, with the help of this forum, and I am happy to say that my new companion will be winging his way, half way across the country to me this Tuesday!!!! A beautiful 3 month old Congo, named Pejuta (pay-jhoo-tah) aka The Crown Prince.
So grateful to get a second chance at Grey-t love.

Really happy to see that you two are doing well together! May I make a suggestion? I am not against the whole food idea, but I think it would be good to get him used to a bit of pellets too in case pellets are needed in the future.

This could happen if he needs to go to a new owner, and the new owner has no knowledge on making an entirely whole food diet. Also, if in case he needs certain nutrients and the vet recommends pellets, at least he is used to it.
