is this trained or normal pigeon behavior

I love that haha. I'd say probably natural, but maybe reinforced if they're pigeons the person owns. Otherwise, just natural nest-material-gathering behavior!

The ones that took over our garage years ago literally pecked and tugged at nearly everything that was new or in their reach, they also copied each other so if one started investigating a new thing the others would soon follow.

Have you seen the footage of the pigeons that seem to deliberately eat the center of the slices of bread given to them then place the whole bread crusts over their heads and wear them like pretty necklaces?

Lots of people call them that- they are highest on the list of spreading diseases to humans I was told and they get into and filth everything up just like rats.... after having some take over our shed and destroy everything I owned and half of my mums stuff too I do unfortunately agree with those who call them flying rats.

I hadn't seen it but a youtube search had at least 5 different clips of different pigeons doing that
This one actually shows one flipping it into place.
I obviously don't spend enough time watching pigeons.

The belief that pigeons carry more diseases is a common but factually inaccurate one.

I believe a few forum members are proud guardians of pet pigeons—I count myself amongst those lucky few.

I love pigeons! Some of those carrier pigeons received animal awards for bravery. I just wish people wouldn’t feed the feral ones. It gets them used to people & some people are cruel.

so, as someone with a companion pigeon - is the behavior in the first post something you would see as natural or as trained?

I am no expert but I think that behavior is “natural” (in quotes because it’s an adaption of a natural behavior in an urban environment). My pigeon does a hop down from a perch and a strut in a circle every time I sing “her” song (just me saying her name and dadada off tune). My local pigeon expert resource (from Palomacy) says it is a courtship dance. She only does it for me and only for that song lol! She also lands on my head every morning I let her out to fly around the living room. Mercifully she has never pooped while there. She strikes me as quite smart and loving.
