I recovered my escaped parrot

Had the birds out in my home.

My kinda exuce, I'm passing a kidney stone, it's very painful, I doubled up on my pain meds ...

I went outside, totally forgetting the birds are out .. Ta-dah flew out after me and landed in a tree.

I talked to her till she calmed down . I went and got a ladder, it's not tall enough to reach the branch she is on.

I went out from the tree so she could fly at an angle down to me . I got food , bread cuz she loves bread . It took about an hour and half up in the ladder sweet talking her . Then my love flew to me . She is safe and sound ! Getting so much love and treats .

i had been working on recall training in home . I know that played a big role in her rescue.

Omg how terrifying! So glad you managed to get her back without any hassles.
I worry about where I just moved to- much harder (actually kinda impossible lol) to keep two doors between birds and outside and we have some resident magpies and crows which I love so much but they don’t generally play nice with other birds getting into their territory- I can only hope that by making friends with them I may be at an advantage if ever I have an escapee.

I can't even imagine the amount or stress this must added to you in this trying time. I'm so so glad your prayers were answered and that she's safely with you tonight. I sincerely hope that things will get better for you soon.

I had a bird fly away many years ago. It was totally avoidable. Haunts me to this day. Im so glad yours came back to you.

You're so lucky! God bless Ta dah! Had my Rio flown to a nearby place like that, maybe we could have recovered him also, but it was my bad luck. Thank god you got her. Nobody should ever feel the pain of escaping a FID. Also, take care of your health. Passing a stone is nasty business.

Oh my goodness I am so happy that you were able to recover TaDah. Your training really paid off as it appears that your bird did not panic but kept to the training. (Well Done!). I almost lost Walter once but I didn't know it. He was staying with my best friend and slipped out. She was absolutely horrorstruck but she found him about an hour later and he was So glad to see her that he stepped right up. (He was only about 6 feet up). She didn't tell me about it for about six months. To this day I would still trust her with any of my animals. Hope you heal up soon from the kidney stones and that better times are ahead.

We do recall, but budgies get so scared in new places that recall in a familiar environment isn't the same-- makes me think I should take them out in the carrying cage to feel the wind and hear the sounds to desensitize them. I'm sure half the battle is the overwhelming amount of sensory input...

Yes. Most definitely it's overwhelming. Most will also try to go to the highest spot . And for birds that don't get to practice flying down from high spots that can be scary too.

It's so good for their minds to get outside, in a safe way. Plus getting sunlight vitamin D. Even in light shade they get the benefits. They should not be left in full sun . And never leave their cage unattended.

I roll my cages very secured outside. So she has been outside in her cage many times . And I have taken them for walks around the neighborhood in their travel cage. In the hopes it would help if any ever got out. Plus just good enrichment for them .

While I tried to recover her, several hawks over but up high .. ..but even worse the predatory Mississippi kites , who specializes in hunting birds flew over . I have a mar d pair in my neighborhood....so darn scary


I have a sign by my slider, telling me to check my parrots....and still I walk out mindlessly ...
I'm trying to think of more things to do . So I don't make this mistake again.
