Oscar finally had his visit at the Avian vet yesterday. The Dr was amazing! He got Oscar out of the cage (on his towel draped finger), he held him and petted him (wrapped in towel), listened to his heart and lungs, looked in his nose, his eyes, looked at his feet, weighed him, and took the time to sit and answer questions from both George and I!

Oscar, he says, seems quite healthy, though he is a bit overweight. 131 grams. He also has a deformed talon on his right foot. That's it! It was good news!

The bad news is, I got Oscar to step up on my towel draped finger! Okay, that part wasn't bad, but when I was putting him into his big cage, a perch came crashing down at the same time! It was one of those huge boings I had put in while he was in his travel cage and somehow I didn't attach it well...now he's back to square one (or maybe negative one) with me as far as trust goes!

However, he did fly straight to the top of his cage!

that's great you found a vet you like and got a good report.
too bad about the boing crash, but you've been there, done that and I'm sure he'll get his progress back much faster.
I don't think he'll hold it against you for very long.

I think the vet visit is wonderful news! And you’ll get there with everything else.

I’m glad the vet visit was quite positive. Yes, “where’s the bird?” Or “where’s the Quaker?!” Is one of OUR favorite games, too.

On the whole, the good definitely outweighed the bad. No doubt Oscar will recover from the incident of the fallen perch (which sounds like the title of a bad mystery novel :D ). His trust in you will be restored before too long.
I certainly hope so! Now, tomorrow I'm driving a total of 500 miles to pick up a cockatiel! That sounds like a country song! Maybe I'll write a book or a movie script called The Fallen Perch about all the clumsy things I've done around and to my birds. There'd be a lot of slapstick!

I suggest you have the main character bend over near the cage and get a solid bite on the behind.

Not that I’ve ever seen such an event.

It was a dark and stormy night and the cage bars rattled in the wind…

But the bird wasn't concerned with the wind, or the rattling...

Your turn.

Your turn.
The Bird—for bird he was—beak-menaced The Finger from the highest perch in his palatial cage. The wind whistled through the gaping casement as the cat burglar stowed his lock picks in his left coat pocket and shook his bloodied dextral hand, cursing.

Your turn.

Thank God I didn't bend over in front of you!" The cat burglar thought to himself. "I should've been told about the bird... Jimmy's going to pay for this" he vowed as he wrapped a handkerchief around his injured hand, careful to insure that not one drop of his DNA be left behind.

Your turn

Alas, the cat burglar neglected to wipe The Bird’s beak.

The Bird chuckled menacingly from his Boing while contemplating his next move.
"Stupid burglar", The Bird muttered under it's breath, "We don't even have a cat." The Bird's first reaction was to get his Hooman, then he remembered his Hooman, who, in his mind, The Bird called "Bobdad", hadn't been home for two days.

Putting two and two together, The Bird realized what he had to do. He had to follow the burglar!
