Our aviary developed fungus over winter. Our winter was mostly warmer than normal & we had a lot of rain & not much snow. The aviary is grass floor. Where there is thin or no grass it's covered in a white fungus. There's a lot of it. JaKhu & Jengo, B&G Macaw & CAG, both like to dig holes in the ground. Our aviary has been in the same spot for 24 years. This is the first time we've had this problem.

I was thinking we could do a spray on fungus treatment now, as the birds won't be in the aviary until late April, or later depending on the weather. From what info I could find the fungus spray takes a week to kill the fungus. Rain will wash it away. We can also water it away if not enough rain. However what about what goes into the ground? I've used Funginex on roses, but never on the ground. Anyone have experience using fungus spray on the ground/lawn? I'm open to suggestions.

Would straight vinegar kill the fungus the way it can kill weeds? :think1: At least I’m told it can kill weeds. Assuming as we can use it for cleaning and it’s safe, it should be ok in the dirt…

We used to get some fungus and mushrooms growing in one spot of our last yard, I was concerned about my dog as I wasn’t sure what exactly they were or if they were safe for her. I bought a big bag of cinnamon and sprinkled it everywhere which killed off both.

Maybe you can try cinnamon as it’s definitely bird safe if get the correct kind.

Do you know what kind of cinnamon? The aviary is 6' x 12', so I'll need a lot of it.

I only buy Ceylon cinnamon. Used it in many situations where mushrooms or fungus popped up unwanted in our garden. I’m always concerned about chemicals damaging our environment and the animals in it so no matter what I’m killing off I search for the safest and most natural method.
We had gold cap or maybe death cap mushrooms sprout over a large section of our yard and obviously I didn’t want the dog getting to them nor did I wish to touch them so I used cinnamon to kill them off and stop more sprouting. I’ve also used it in my worm farms to stop some fungus growing in there from the cardboard glue and I’ve put it on ant holes to make them move on- they don’t like it at all. Great stuff if you can find it cheap enough to toss about.
It’s also a wonderful root starter for plants.

Do you sprinkle it on dry ground, or wet it first so it doesn't blow away? How much covering is required & how fast does it work?

I've used F10 on a hibiscus plant when a mushroom popped in it's planter. It left the plant alone and the mushroom didn't come back. I picked the mushroom out and changed the soil. If you're worried about the fungus coming back spray the spot with F10 could work. Just a thought

I literally just roughly sprinkled it.
Some funguses I have attacked have taken a touch longer (I guess type of fungus and the environment it is in may alter the results) and others are wilted and dried up the following morning.
I mowed over the dried mushrooms and then sprinkled more cinnamon once they were gone so no more grew from the spores.

Some random links (I did not check sorry) in the hopes you may be able to find some more info.

No, unfortunately I don't. I've never personally experienced having fungus growing inside our aviary. But then again our climate is warm and essentially dry.

Think F10 may be the answer, if I can find a seller that will ship it to me. I need a lot, so looking for the 200ml bottle, as we need to use it in our garage too. Tried Amazon, but keep getting a message they can't ship to my location. HUH? I'm in central PA. No idea why they can't ship it here.

So odd that they won't ship to you. :chin: I've had issues finding it during the beginning of covid but found a seller on Ebay in Australia that would ship to me. Later on the they couldn't thou. Hopefully you can find some where that can get to you. Looking on Ebay or even in a reptile online store you might find some thing :fingerscrossed:

Apparently the shipping issue it has something to do with the EPA here. I have found one place that can ship it to me. They have 2 kinds. One is the F10SC Veterinary Disinfectant (white) & the other is F10SC Veterinary Cleaner Sanitizer (green). I'm assuming I want the Disinfectant kind to kill the fungus on the ground?

Can you post a link to the two different products? There are so many different F10 products available

True, I'm pretty sure it's the white one but you can never be too careful

Can your local vet get it in for you if there are issues with postal services transporting it?
