Hello I just got my first Quaker and it’s 6 weeks old we have an older one at 7 months but I’m just nervous because all the baby seems to do is eat and just sit and sleep which is probably normal but just wanted to ask

Have you talked to the breeder to see what they say is normal for that age?

Today will be my second day and yes it is hand feeding for 2 more weeks but I think he was just nervous because of the change because he has started to walk around and investigate a little when I put him down. Also now when I feed him instead of having to open his mouth like yesterday now he’s doing the up and down movement and eating.

Good! Yes they are intelligent and emotional creatures and going to a new home with a new dad feeding is stressful.

But things can go wrong quick with little ones , esp because of the stress. Weigh daily. Poop watch , crop watch . Any lethargy or changes going forward you will probably want to act quickly with a vet .

Babies do need and take extra naps . Be sure to keeps things short and sweet and have relax nap times. I think my six week old took four or five naps a day .

We need a baby Pic!

You can start offering minced up veggies to nothing bigger than a pea size for babies . And moisten pellets to a soft crumble. Offer after your morning hand feed formula. I know it seems weird , but babies are more willing to try and experiment with new foods with a comfortable full crop. Morning seems to be the biggest time to explore, but offer stuff after each feeding. It's weaning by abundance.

It's also good to add a few toys , and low perches a couple inches of the ground.

My quaker baby by breeder , was very knowledgeable, she actually started all that at four weeks. We were both surprised when my baby weaned by six weeks !! I made her send me several videos of him refusing morning, noon, and evening feeding. But he did indeed wean early, I had formula on hand Incase he reverted after I picked him up . He was indeed fully weaned and confident. His siblings weaned at seven and eight weeks . For some reason this clutch just weaned Early, but she also had really fooled around with them and they had each other to learn from, and older chicks near by to watch as well.

They need extra care and guidance just prior to weaning, and post weaning juvenile period to become well adjusted intelligent adults. Think of it like school , they would learn so much from parents siblings, and older brother and sisters . What is food , and you g Ines are willing to experiment, even starting easy foraging that you do together. Interaction with nicel objects and toys . Choose some really soft woods like sola ,basa (?).
We have some extraordinary vendors ! Things for wings I love her foraging fence Matt's, lil monster, and seriously nuts has a toy chest that is amazing!!! The right toys make all the difference; and our vendors have parrots , get parrots , and make incredible parrot tempting stuff you can find at pet stores .
I'm not a vendor! Lol I'm promoting them as a consumer , and the incredible reaction of my flock ! You can check them out here

Oh what a gorgeous baby !!!
Ok yours looks much more immature than my six week old baby looked. They can definitely develop and mature at different rates.

Do you have a hatch certificate? Just because this is how my baby looked at four weeks ..I got to follow his development from 2 weeks on. But they do develop at their own rate
