Yes it's true and you need to get all the teflon out of your house including bakeware and replace with stainless steel.

Thanks for posting those links Marie...teflonis a definite no no. I also use SS pots and love them...they clean up real easy.

Here is a site where people tell stories of dangers to parrots...some of these stories can be very sad, I warn you.

Actually, depending on where your birds are located in your house in relationship to your kitchen, it may be possible to keep your teflon pans.

That being said, you would in that case, always have to be concerned if smoke fumes from a burnt teflon pan would travel through the air vents and into where your birds are even if they are on a different floor. Teflon fumes can kill your birds in a matter of minutes. It is a personal decision and the consequence of which we would be responsible for. A high % of bird owners don't take the risk.

You also have to remember that a LOT of house hold equiptment has teflon in it that heats up...hair dryers are another big problem...people take their birds into the bathroom while they are doing their hair and it can also make the bird sick and you not realize it...

Hair dryers! I did not know that! I take my birds in the bathroom while I'm getting ready! THANKS FOR THIS POST! No more birdies in the bathroom while I'm doing my hair!

FYI- It takes getting used to. You'll probably burn the first few things you cook with a stainless steel pan, but don't be discouraged- you'll get the hang of it. You must oil these before cooking. When you're done cooking, immediately soak in hot water and brush pan. That makes it easier to get everything off. "Bar Keepers Friend" keeps all your stainless steel shiny and new. But use the powder kind, the liquid doesn't work as well. And don't use around your birds- you'll know why when you smell it.

Teflon is deadly for avians . Glass and non stick cookware w/ pam is what I use a lot when I decide to cook. I'm not an expert on the subject due to I seldom cook.

Take into consideration: Teflon is contained in some space heaters as well. I called the manufacture about mine before I used it around Angel last winter. I have a Homes and haven't had a issue with it. I'm not sure about other brands.
