hello everyone.

ive had 7 lovebirds for 2 years, one of them is trained and really likes human touch and is cuddly while the other 6 were untrained and flew away when you come close. anyways so i got them all in the same time and they're always out of their cages where they all fly together and chirp everyday. today i had to give them away to a breeder because i could not afford to buy all 7 food anymore, i gave them all to the breeder i got them from except the trained one. im concerned for him though because hes mostly silent now, and just stays with me the whole time and plays with me, i bought him a lot of toys so he doesnt get bored but im still very concerned if there will be issues or should i get another bird to keep him company?

Hello
I think it depends on the bird as he always been with other lovebirds ? Did he interact with the other more than you ?
Do you want another bird don’t get another bird just for your bird it may not work out only get one if you want another one

maybe you can give him time and see how he settles

@Zara as good advice on lovebirds

he mostly stayed with me only chirped with the others, hes always been single, never had a partner or a mate. it just feels weird seeing him silent like this

He will still miss them because they were his flock. I am sure any of mine would be very different if I took all of my other birds away.
When talking about lovebirds in our homes, we cage them one bird or one bonded pair per cage for their own safety, but really, lovebirds are quite flock orientated by nature. In the wild they often live in groups - the reason this works in the wild and doesn't in our homes is they need space to be able to move away from conflicts and in a cage there is not enough space, and if one starts chasing another, there is no escape unlike in the wild. Some breeders breed in colonies in large aviaries with success for the same reason - the birds are social, and any that are not fitting in well are removed for their own safety as they cannot leave of their own accord like they would in the wild.

That said, you can't guarantee a bond if you were to bring home another bird, and so you should only do that if you want another bird for yourself as said above by another member.
If you keep a single lovebird, they really do need all of your attention, and they need a lot of time where you interact with them directly. They are inseparable birds, and if they don't have a mate, you have to fill that position and be there to cuddle, play, eat and "nap" (let them nap on you, obviously not both sleep).

Hopefully in a few days he warms up after he adjusts. Try introducing some new toys to play with together. Also, when I had a single bird years ago, I would flock call to him, and he always responded - it was a simple "pi-pew", so maybe you could try making a more bird like sounding call to him.
