Looking for advice. My rescue girl is about 20 and I’ve had her for coming up on a year.

She started losing some feathers on the top of her head, and there is now a bald spot, which, when it started happening, I did some research to find out that it could be a sign of fatty liver disease, and since then which has been about six months she has had no seeds or nuts, except on the very rare occasion as a treat and now I’m starting to notice that her feathers are looking like this in the back.

I don’t know if it’s just because of her age or because she also is climbing in and out of towels all day long that her feathers are getting roughed up, but wondering if anyone has had any experience or has insight if there’s something else obvious going on that I am not aware of with the discoloration etc or if it looks normal.

Thank you!

It could be this, but personally I would head to the vet for a wellness check and get it looked into now before it potentially gets any worse.

I second a wellness exam.

You have lived with her for about a year, have you ever been with her through a moult? Asiatic parrots can have very radical and dramatic moults. It is possible that the vet they can help you determine if it is an illness or if it is part of her natural moulting process.
