Jasper (10 yo female Meyers parrot) has been watching YouTube videos with me in the last couple of weeks. She has watched for 40 minutes without getting squirmy.
We usually watch talking bird videos, but today we watched animal videos. She was focused for about 40 minutes. She didn’t pace around or get nippy at all.

is this common for poicephalus parrots? Today we started with talking ringneck videos and then got transferred to an animal feed. But she was interested the whole time. I had to put her back in her house because I had an appointment.

That's awesome! I've never noticed Mochi noticing the TV or my phone when playing something. I have even tried showing her youtube videos and she has no interest.

Huh. Well, Jasper especially likes talking ringneck videos with the bright red beak and bright blue or green or yellow bird. I talk back to the video and to her and she watches it closely. Otherwise she gets squirmy and starts nipping me so I take her back to her cage. Jasper doesn’t normally like to be pet, to play or cuddle very long but with videos she will sit for 30-45 min.
I’d like to find a poicephalus video and see if she focuses on it.
Jasper has a particular noise that she makes to me; I am wondering if it’s my ‘name’ to her? She likes if I make the noise back to her.
Mochi has a lot of yellow on her forehead. Jasper only has a bit on one side of her forehead, though it seems like yellow feathers are newly coming in on the other side.

Today we watched some animal videos. Jasper was particularly interested in videos of a turtle with flash colors of yellow and black. It occurs to me that those are Meyers parrot flash colors, too.
She kept trying to beak the animal in the videos. We watched a bunch of different ones. I was worried about watching an owl video (my old Quaker hated owls and anything that looked like an owl; was afraid Jasper would get scared) but she did not mind that, nor the cat videos. ??

We must have watched and talked to bird videos (and a few animal videos) for an hour today. Jasper really likes ringneck videos and tried to touch the red beak on the screen. One of them scared her a bit— trying to remember if it was the snake or lizard video.

She really enjoys these and our big issue was that she didn’t want to potty on me but she needed to go and was getting antsy. Finally I put her down on her tree and she left a massive poo as soon as she’d finished checking the food dish. I am going to praise her big next time she goes on newspaper in case she’s confused. Maybe she was just excited or busy.

We were watching parrot videos for a little while today and Jasper mostly wanted to bite the phone and the birds in the phone. Previously she was just really interested in bird videos, esp talking ringneck videos with the bright red beak.
Sometime today we stumbled upon a channel by a parrot trapper in Asia. This was pretty upsetting but I hope I turned it fast enough that it didn’t upset her. That was so sad and angering!

Today, Jasper DID NOT enjoy watching parrot videos. After the first video of a blue ringneck talking, she lunged at the screen. Then she got my thumb and made me bleed pretty well. I actually had to hold her head still so she didn’t take a chunk out of me, and carefully deposit her in her cage.
Wow! I’m not sure what changed.

Jasper has continued to not like watching bird videos or to at least to get upset overexcited or jealous when she sees me watching those other birds (on the screen).
I really don’t like being bit unexpectedly so I think we’ll stop this video-watching for a while.

Ripley doesn't like when I show him himself on the camera  I've tried to let him see himself while recording and he does a lot of posturing

The reason Jasper ended up with me was that her original home liked to have all the birds out together and Jasper decided to challenge a macaw. So she needed a new home and my Lucy Quaker had just passed on a couple of months before.
I dud some reading and found that adult Meyers are very aggressive towards other birds. I knew I wouldn’t be letting my birds out together, so I wasn’t so worried about it.

today i woke up early and both birds started yelling. I got Willow out first and fed Jasper but Jasper wanted out, too. So willow was on the basket on my lap and Jasper in the bird gym 7 feet away.

Then Jasper started to flip her wings like she was going to fly so I put Willow back in his house and spent some time petting and truck training jasper. (Didn’t want any surprise bites.) She’s grasped pretty well how to “turn around” to get a treat of sunflower seed.

and then in case she was mad about going back to her cage (because I was falling asleep) she got a sunflower seed for stepping into the cage.
Here’s a link about Poicephalus aggression:

I turned on some toddler learning songs on YouTube while I was working this morning with Amara on my shoulder. I was going to sing along just to get her exposed to lots of talking.
She absolutely vegged out watching the colorful people sing and dance, and when I went to ask her to step up so she could go to her carrier for a potty break she yelled at me for interrupting/block her view.
Omg. :roflmao:

Does Jasper latch on like a vice when she bites?
Oggie sure does :jawdrop1:

“Does Jasper latch on like a vice when she bites?”

yes. She has a very bad bite and will clamp on and grind her beak.
The problem is that I’m not sure what upset her, just that she’s upset about something.

I honestly think some pois are just little chaotic demons who enjoy pain?

Oggie loves me. He loves scritches from me. I can lure him anywhere just by asking him to come to me. He climbs/waddles over then lifts his foot and begs me to pick him up by going 'Oggie?' In the sweetest cutest way.
But the *second* his feet are securely settled on my finger he bends down and bites into it as hard as he can. Vice grip, grinding.
I have to physically pry him off so I usually end up with 3 different bleeding fingers as I shift him from hand to hand until I'm fast enough to get away

My birds are budgies & it’s not a recording, but sometimes the crow who owns the roof top riles them up & they respond. I think the crow does it on purpose.

I avoid Jasper bites by trying to ONLY PAY ATTENTION TO JASPER when she’s out, but sometimes distractions happen. And I’m trying to get her to hang out on her bird tree without being perched on me but she only stays there when there’s food. She can stretch very far to pull books off the bookshelf and chew them. And I know it’s just a hop away from her eating my books quickly.
