Hiya I jabe a female african who I had since 12 weeks old and I have male that took on when ge was 10 year old due the them not having time for him he is now 18 year old

Any may there always been great loved each spent time together but over I say the last few years things have changed with them they started feeding each then my female started plucking a lot she been to vet been tested and has nothing wrong they said it just a habit she got into so she had collar put on but she so good getting them off so few 8 weeks I didn't put back on just wanted too see how she get on well no good at all got worse so on with the collar again not how long it stay on though any way in January this year she laid 2 eggs she didn't really do anything with them didn't care about them at all but left them in with her but are just didn't show any interest at all so took them away and thing got back to normal they still was feeding each other when ever they was out together then in march lola laid 7 eggs over the few weeks this time she sat on them wouldn't move even had too give her food at the bottom of cage I was getting very worried so I took some advice and the lady I talk who was a vet told me too put in her in another room away from barney and not let her see him as it was about him too in lola eyes so I did that and with 2 days lola came off the eggs and got back too her normal self the told me too keep them away from each other fir few weeks so after that time they was back to seeing each other and now there working out how too get out there cages they move bottom tray and out they get there not in same cage when there cage but they get out there been making a nest under there cage even rip up things that don't belong too them so I just don't what too do anymore I given in a caged them together as that what they want but I am worried I don't want babies and I don't want lola getting hurt by barney trying too mate with her but not sure what too do anymore should they stay together?should they be out the same time?should they see each ? what do I about the feeding each other ??sorry lots of questions

I think bonded birds should at least be caged side by side and allowed time out together. I think it emotional cruel to seperste bonded birds and I think your species mates for life .
But I very much understand not wanting eggs.

Pamela Clark is an avian behavioralist and grey enthusiast. I look and see if she has anything on this. She does do phone consultations for a reasonable price I believe.

In a different article she talks about one of her male female pair bonds, and mention they spend most of their time 2 feet to 10 feet apart and only limited engagement in pair bond activities like preening.

Eggs only means babies if you allow incubation- you can simply replace the eggs, boil the eggs or use any other means to stop them from developing and hatching.

You are quite correct, Congo Greys will/do mate for life.
