Hello! I have a lovebird couple, male and female. Snappy (male) is 2 years old and Biby (female) is almost a year old. I'm not 100% percent sure if Biby is a female but the pet shop where I bought her said it was a female. I had lovebirds before and I know how mating works. I have caught them mating a couple of times and most of the time I look away but something seemed off. Usually males go on top of the female when mating but I noticed they were doing it to each other. Snappy on top of Biby and then Biby on top of snappy. Is this a normal behavior or should I be worried they're both males?

Hello Nelson,

They are very beautiful :) That is Biby on the left and Snappy on the right?

If they are taking turns on top, it could be that you have a same sex pair, either male male or female female. The other possibility is that Biby is still learning how it all works and figuring out how to mate. They are still young at one year old so you won't really get an answer by behaviour unless you get a DNA test done.
