Speaking of Toucanets are they poop shooters due to theyre diets? Its a horrible way to ask but hey..better to be blunt I guess. I wonder if they are due to the high intake of fruits like Lories shoot FAR distances...but how about this species?

Some rhamphastids are known to be 'messy' in the poop department but it's not so much a species thing. It's individual traits.

Sorry..did not know how else to ask! I went to that Toledo Zoo behind the scenes with the AACBC this past summer and was shot in the head 3 times while on the tour by some Lorikeets in a large flight. I knew they did this..I just wondered if the Toucans and Toucanets did this as well. LOL
They are adorable..I would just be worried about diet and fruit flies..I HATE THOSE THINGS!

Much better than lories. Mine also poop in one or two spots in the cage. The poop is a little more solid than a lories.

For fruits...try organic whenever possible as some of the fruits are hi in pesticides. Check fruit/pesticides and that will give you some information.

Olivia, green aracari and Trixie, Ivory billed aracari are such nice birds. They are bird aggressive so I have to slowly introduce them to other birds. They love perching on me and both love to have me handfeed them pieces of fruit. One enjoys perching on my head and one on the shoulder. Both love sitting on my wrist though and watching the computer screen as I type. Olivia just sits and watches. Trixie is the bolder one and she has to hop down and look under the computer screen to see where the rest of the screen stuff is. They both feel a need to help me type and will rap the keys with their beaks.

They do not step up so to speak but do better with a little hop. Both have gone places with me and are comfortable with other people.

If they are not happy they can rap you with their beaks. Make sure the food is the right size. If it isn't and they can't get it small enough they FLING it...trying out for the javelin throw!

The sounds they make are different and you have to get use to what they different ones mean. Mine are caged when I am not with them and they are allowed free flight in the computer room. As they get older and more mature I will let them go to other areas in the house.

They wean at 8 weeks. But they still have young bird mannerisms and needy of some snuggling. Many have tents for them to sleep in as they still like to. I have a toy with fleece dangling and mine sleep under that.

Olivia is 5 months old and Trixie is 8 months old.
