Hey Emma,

Any updates? I would like to know how Indie is getting on.

I have been just having a strange time with my Aldora since being left single.

Hey Emma,

Any updates? I would like to know how Indie is getting on.

I have been just having a strange time with my Aldora since being left single.
I moved her downstairs she wasn’t happy wasn’t eating wouldn’t come out wouldn’t play was attacking me every opportunity she got I moved her back upstairs to bird room she was same upstairs eating a bit better but still not happy when she did come out it was just to attack me she bit my ear really bad and then would just fly off she’s wasn’t foraging wasn’t playing just sat on her perch just about ate enough to keep her going
I took her to vets and we both made the choice she would be better in a aviary with lovebirds so he put me in touch with a rescue who had lovebird aviary I haven’t posted because honestly I feel like I failed her I feel so guilty as @Xoetix knows it wasn’t an easy decision for me at all even though she happy there I’ve had updates on her it still breaks my heart
But like vet said even if I got another lovebird there’s no guarantee she would accept them or them her it probably wouldn’t stop the attacking as that seemed to be only response I got for her I could do anything with her treats she wouldn’t rather attack my hand
Honestly hate to say it but it got too much I hate going into bird room dreaded having to deal with her and I am pretty sure she felt same I know it makes me a terrible person but honestly seeing updates I know she better happier than anything I would give her where she is
Sorry

Aw don't feel bad you went above and beyond for her and the fact that she's happy now shows it was the right decision. *hugs*

Honestly - even though I’m still newer to birds, I just read this whole thread and as vet tech and someone that has worked with lots of other animals and rescue animals. You didn’t fail her or make the wrong choice. While you MIGHT could have worked through it and got her happy again, it takes a lot to realize when rehoming may BE a good option and in the best interest of the bird. That also makes you a good owner. Knowing when a different situation may be better. So I applaud you for making that hard decision that sometimes pet owners won’t make.

I can absolutely understand that feeling having been through rehoming myself for the right reason.

A terrible person? Not in the slightest. Sometime animals don’t work out in their environment and that is okay. Putting your own attachment and feelings aside to do what’s best for Indie is the exact opposite of a terrible person.

Once I rehomed a rabbit. We got Moo Moo and knew we absolutely wanted her to have companionship. So we adopted a male lion head. Except he never was able to adjust to my kiddo and household noise level even after 6+ months. He would charge at my son or he would be so terrified he wouldn’t come out of his cage. We didn’t get to introduce him to Moo Moo. It was clear he was absolutely miserable. So we rehomed him to a couple with an older 17 year old child. He was a whole new rabbit. It broke our hearts to say goodbye but in the end it opened the door to Croissant and gave Theo the life he deserved.

Sometimes we have to make those hard calls. You did what was best for Indie.

I know I’ve made right choice mainly for indie doesn’t stop me missing her though but I know she needed more than I could offer her she was born in a aviary so maybe I don’t know wasn’t ever meant to just be a pet bird
I tried so much with her going back to basics etc but even when pico was still and as a baby she wasn’t a massive fan of me from one day
I love lovebirds pico was amazing but indie put me off I understood the cage aggression it was the flying to attack me remi and pip for no reason seen to me was just like a switch went off

I am sorry to hear this. Hopefully Indie will bond with somebirdy and integrate herself into a flock.

Aldora is different since Jaime died. She is not aas fiery. She is playful. She never really played with toys unless they were to destroy. But in the morning I wake up and I can hear Jaimes bell ringing, which is quite haunting, and it is obviously her ringing it. She plays with it often. Plays with all the other toys in her cage, even things she's never played with before.
But when I let her out, she flies until she is exhausted, it's like she is looking for Jaime. She is not as strong as she was, her flight isn't at strong as before (she was always the worst flier, not that it was bad, but my other birds are excellent fliers).
I am glad I brought the cages back into my living room, she watches me often, she's watching me now. I think she is much happier being closer to us.

I still don’t know if I made right choice last update I got she was happy she’s definitely integrating the man said the flock

I spoke to remi and pips breeder he breeds fisher lovebirds (how ever you spell it) I was going to get her one of them as he would have dna for me but he didn’t think it would help her he use to breed peachfaced lovebirds too but said he stop as females are very aggressive he said he had a few returned to him

She had lost weight too when I took her to vets
She just wasn’t happy

maybe I should have tried another lovebird before making choice I just know I couldn’t have two like her broke my heart seeing her not eating sat on same perch constantly

I didn’t want to clip her I honestly believe that would have made things worse for her she didn’t even play with her bells anymore or shredded things

glad aldora playing I am sorry when she out she just flys looking for Jamie does she interact with others

Oh of course you’ll miss her. I miss Theo still and it’s been a long time. It’s okay to grieve. I just don’t want you thinking you are terrible for choosing to let her be happier.
