So i had a pair of ringnecks and the hen died back in February. I got a new hen to go with the male and they have been in same cage sense April but i have noticed the hen is pretty mean to him. She wont let him eat and always acting like she wants to bit him when he gets close to her. Should i separate them? and look into getting a new hen for him instead? I feel like they are never going to breed because she's pretty mean. They are both 3-4 years old. any advice would be great. I also have another pair of bonded ringnecks i have had sense January and still haven't gotten anything on them. I live in Alabama by the way.

I am sorry for your loss. Yes, they should be separated based on what you are describing.

Separate them ASAP.

Ringnecks do not form long term pair bonds like many other species. The only get together when they breed.

Females are known for being hard on males.

Thank you. I separated them. Should i just find them each a different mate?
