I've tried it fresh with Summer and get that macaw "you've got to be kidding me" look. She is a diva. Mia might be the Queen but Summer is definitely the Princess!! HOLY COW!

I've been sticking it in some water and popping it into the microwave. There are some pros/cons to this. She LOVES that it breaks apart and gets smooshy. But I HATE that it gets so watery!!

Any suggestions on what I should try?

My birds usually get pure 100% pumpkin in a can, cause for some reason, my picky fids, won't eat a normal pumpkin, haha! They think a normal cooked pumpkin is gross, haha! But I put the canned pumpkin in their birdy bread, and also in their bean/rice mix, while it is still hot.

Joanna,

I serve mine raw and cooked. If you cook it you can do a couple ways. Cut it in half, scoop out the seeds for cooking later and pop in the microwave until it feels firm but mushy...(lol, great desription). You can also put the over on 350 cut the pumpkin in half and scoop out the seeds, place face down in a 9 x 13 with a little water until they are cooked. Really depends on size. Tell Summer, a.k.a. miss fussy pants that she has to try pumpkin, it is so good for her! jk

I do raw or baked. They like it both ways, you can also put some cinnamon on it, but I don't.

I microwaved mine for 3 minutes (I think 2 minutes might be better depending on your machine's wattage) Mine was a bit mushy, but the birds didn't seem to mind. Oatmeal inside of it :)

The microwave trick is good to know, in case I ever need squash in a hurry. I bake mine because no one takes any notice to it when raw, except the seeds of course.

I am a microwave-er. I leave the seeds and guts in and add a liberal sprinkling of cinnamon.

I gut the thing. Cut eyes, nose, mouth and pop a candle inside. :D

My birds won't touch the stuff. :(

I love the idea of the little pumpkin with oatmeal. Do you cut the top off before microwaving or do you put it in whole?

I just put it in whole, and cut the top off afterward. It was my first attempt with mini pumpkins, and I added oatmeal in it because I just didn't know what else to do :rofl::rofl:
