Green Aracari speed, temperament

Hey everyone,

I see a lot of talk about the great speed of green aracaris. I was wondering if and in what way that has been a "problem" in terms of keeping them as pet birds? I'm reminded of when I was a kid and I often heard that tiels were too fast and fidgety to be good pets but (despite never having tiels) I know that to be untrue and they're in some ways one of the best pet birds to have but instead people sometimes have unrealistic notions and ideals for birds (wanting a puppy when you have a bird sorta thing but ultimately treating it like a fish :sour: )

Anyway, thanks for any and all commentary!!

Dean

No problems here. He is a cuddlebug who loves attention, and nothing more than snuggling up inside my shirt. I keep him in one room by using magic mesh as a deterrent. Just so we don't have any wild flights through the house. I guess that could become a problem if your bird was allowed to fly towards any outside door and someone opened it. Or into the kitchen if there is cooking going on. When you have flighted birds in a home you and every one who lives there must always be aware when the bird is out, so no accidents happen. Just good old common sense helps. ;)

My white capped pionus is free flighted in his room but I imagine aracari are quite a bit faster than pionus parrots.

I think almost all parrots are faster than humans, and that's the speed that matters when they fly over your shoulder and you wonder if you left the back window open!

I have caiques that most people believe don't fly well, and those little (BUG*&^), I mean darlings, can really MOVE!
