Work hasn't been too busy but I have been getting home late. The last two nights have been shared with Olivia. (green aracari) What a doll. She is such a well socialized bird wanting head scritches, beak stroking and beginning to let me pet under her wings.

She is good staying right with me and not flying off. She plays, flings things and just a nice fun bird. Then it is off into my shirt for a nap. Tonight though she was having fun going into the sleeve of my tshirt and then wedging her head out on the arm to take a look around. She seemed to like the pressure of the shirt around her itty bitty body.

She still hisses at the other birds if she is near them. (others like to join me in the computer room). Although she hisses she is also becoming more tolerant of them being around and not ready to attack them at any moment.

That would be interesting, integrating an aracari with parrots.
Olivia sounds like fun tho !
When my Jimi tries to go in thru my armhole, I just get the giggles too bad... he's limited to going in the neck. Like Olivia, he also seems to like the pressure on his body.

They are great pets, just remember to always be careful with her when she is around other birds, as they are a lot more predatory than I think most people realize. It's a little bit like having a cat or a dog, but with feathers.

Good point. She is on me, they are on the playstand next to the desk. It is now ok if they look at each other. Not idealistic of them being the best of friends...aint gonna happen. My goal was that they can look at each other and be within 5 feet to minimize any stress with another bird nearby.

Interesting....had no idea toucans were predatory. Would love to see pictures!

Yep, big time in the wild.
And in captivity for that matter.
I never let my toucanets around my other birds. I've seen how cats watch birds, and I swear my toucanets get the same look when they watch my finches, or just about anything else that moves for that matter. The way they play also reminds me a bit more of predatory animals like cats and dogs than it does my other birds.

When there's a bug loose in the house I'll let them out, and they'll go and hunt it down too, often successfully, all though sometimes they need a little help (such as me scaring the insect into flying towards them).
I've been giving them live crickets lately as an occasional treat, and very few other things get them so excited.
