I have had this pair of budgies for 3 years. These are the first chicks. 3 eggs, 2 hatched. The second one hatched yesterday. The male has been good about feeding the female while she was on the nest. Today however, they're fighting over access to the chicks. The male is keeping the female away. He's feeding the chicks, but I'm not sure it's enough. They're both spending a lot of time away from the nest. Again, I'm not sure what is normal.
It feels way too early to get involved in hand feeding. Should I remove the male and see if mom bird resumes her role? He's fought her every time she gets near the nest, so much that she's almost quit trying. I can hear the chicks peeping and neither parent is responding right now.
