I was shocked by his passing-- he called me personally when Percy died and seemed very kind.
I have been to Dr. Flinchum at All Bird Clinic, Dr. Baldwin at Broward Avian & Exotic, and Dr. Rolfe at the Bird & Exotic Hospital in Greenacres. My experience is definitely shaped by how they do with budgies-- some of these clinics might be fine with larger birds, but budgies require hands-on experience and confidence for blood draws, etc.
I am currently sticking with Dr. Baldwin-- of all the named vets, she isn't an avian specialist, but she was the one who correctly diagnosed Merlin's fungal infection, safely put him through anesthesia for radiography, and confidently drew his blood. I do not recommend Dr. Flinchum for small birds, full stop, but can't speak to her handling of larger birds. Dr. Rolfe is also wonderful and has a Grey herself-- I don't blame her for not zeroing in on Merlin's diagnosis, but I do think Dr. Baldwin's instincts were a little sharper. I'd still go to Dr. Rolfe for a second opinion, if I need one.
The Greenacres clinic does everything while you are in the room, and at Broward they make a point of doing tests/grooming in a different room while you wait, so that might be a factor in your decision.
Edit: I've also been to the Pet Emergency Center in Ft. Lauderdale and the vet who was there knew Dr. Kelleher (the primary vet at Broward Avian) and was appropriately knowledgeable about birds. A great option for late night emergencies.
