![[Senegal Parrot]](../images/sp.jpg)
The Senegal parrot is an outstanding
member of the Poicephalus family. They are beautiful birds and a great choice when
size is a concern. They have a reasonably good ability to talk, and are not generally
loud. They are a great companion bird if properly socialized (unsocialized senegals
seem to be very skittish).
Graham hatched in 1998. He is a beautiful bird and very energetic. He talks a bit,
and loves to have his head scratched. Dawn also hatched in 1998. She is much more
"steamlined" in appearance than her mate. It seems like this is very typical
of the female senegals Ive seen. She talkes a fair amount; her brother (Coke-a-moe)
is an awesome talker.
Description:
General plumage is green with a grey to dark grey head (periophthalmic ring black).
Lower breast and abdomen are yellow to orange-yellow; under wing- and under tail-coverts
bright yellow, tail brownish-green; Bill black; iris yellow; feet dark-grey. Immatures
with lighter plumage and a dark brown iris. Approx 9 inches.
Taxonomy:
Psittaciformes / Psittacidae / Psittacinae / Poicephalus / P.senegalus
